Dementia UK shares the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for ahead of free clinics in South West

Nationwide and Dementia UK’s free face-to-face clinics are returning to Nationwide’s Torquay, Plymouth and Exmouth branches this February, offering specialist support in a safe, comfortable and private space for people to discuss any aspect of dementia.

Hosted by Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses, the clinics are open to anyone impacted by dementia, offering life-changing support to families and individuals in the area. Appointments can be booked via Dementia UK’s website here .

Freemasons donate £10,000 to Exeter Cathedral

Ian Kingsbury, the Provincial Grand Master of the Devonshire Freemasons recently met the Very Revd Jonathan Greener, Dean of Exeter Cathedral to present him with a certificate to commemorate the £10,000 granted to the Cathedral to help with the renovation and modernisation of the facilities so essential to the wellbeing of the house of worship, in particular on this occasion the Chapter House.

A fine example of a traditional butcher’s bike will go under the hammer on November 2.

The vintage 1930s bike was once used by a family-run butcher’s shop in Topsham to deliver orders to local people, before its practicality was made redundant with the advent of van deliveries in the 1950s.

Dartmoor Rural Crime Initiative

Devon & Cornwall Police and Dartmoor National Park Authority are working closely with partners through the Dartmoor Rural Crime Initiative, an arrangement which was formally adopted on 25 October 2019.

A working group brought together by the partnership arrangement is focussing on issues that have been identified as areas of concern by local communities.

These are reducing antisocial behaviour and increasing safety around illegal raves, reducing incidents of speeding where animals are injured or killed, general road safety on the moor and fly tipping.

Honiton woman joins RAF Benevolent Fund to celebrate its centenary

Earlier this week, the daughter of an RAF pilot who was killed in a flying accident in 1998 joined the RAF Benevolent Fund to celebrate the charity’s 100th anniversary. It marked the occasion by hosting an afternoon tea at the RAF Club followed by a reception at St James’s Palace hosted by the charity’s President, His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent. IP Office steps up to support Exeter City’s rising young stars

Business communications company IP Office has affirmed its commitment to Exeter City Football Club in a new sponsorship deal to support the club’s academy.

Plans for Community Playing Field Receive Boost

Plans by St Leonards Neighbourhood Association to maintain Mount Radford Lawn as a playing field were given a boost this week following a recommendation from the city council planning department to reject planning permission for housing on the site. After an application from local developer Burrington Estates to build seven luxury houses (including one with a basement cinema, gym and sauna) on the field in August, the planning department received over 200 letters of objection.
