Exeter Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) has won a national Reaching 18–25s Award in recognition of its pioneering work supporting young adults and improving safety across the city’s evening and night-time economy. A Question of Racing proved a winning format at Exeter Racecourse on Tuesday with a packed audience entertained by some of horse racing’s leading personalities.

University panel reveals climate emergency plan

The University of Exeter must take rapid action to tackle the environment and climate emergency, according to a panel of staff and students.

The panel says the university should be carbon neutral by 2040 in terms of activities it directly controls (such as university vehicles and campus electricity) and by 2050 – or sooner – in indirect emissions (such as those associated with waste and products purchased).

Its recommendations include cutting long-haul air travel by 50%, increasing recycling to 70% and halving plastic and paper use – all by 2025.

Staff from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes sites across the Exeter area took time to pay their respects on Remembrance Sunday.

A mixture of staff from development sites all took part in gathering for a moment’s silence, as well as colleagues from the main offices in Exeter.

East Devon District Council is pioneering a new way of helping its residents discover more about their recycling and waste service through the Amazon Alexa.

District households who have an Amazon virtual assistant can now ask Alexa about recycling thousands of household items and seek advice on everything from checking when collections are, reporting missed collections and asking for new recycling containers with the answers being tailored to the residents’ address.

People who want to use this new ‘recycling skill’ must live in the East Devon District Council catchment area...
