Nello cyclists have special reasons for taking part

FORCE Cancer Charity’s largest annual fundraiser – The Nello bike ride – is less than two months away and cyclists from across Devon and around the country are gearing up for the big day on Sunday June 28.

Since the first Nello Century Cycle Challenge in 2000, the ride has raised £1.5million for Exeter-based FORCE, which works locally to support anyone affected by cancer, face-to-face and close to home.

The charity has set a target of raising £127,500 from Nello 2026 to meet the increasing demand for its unique services.

New helipad opens at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital

A brand new helipad at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) is now open, thanks to a £1million donation from the HELP Appeal – the only charity in the country dedicated to funding NHS hospital helipads.

The hospital’s previous helipad was unable to receive night landings, but the new helipad is equipped with lighting so air ambulances will be able to land during darkness hours. Devon is ‘in a good position’ if a local outbreak occurs, following sustained low numbers of positive COVID-19 cases and steady flow of quality data, says Devon’s Director of Public Health.

Dr Virginia Pearson was answering questions at Devon County Council’s Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (July 8) on the Local Outbreak Management Plan.

The plan is a blueprint which details how any future outbreaks of the virus in Devon would be managed and how its transmission would be contained.

A ground-breaking collaboration, between experts from the University of Exeter and Supacat Ltd, to spearhead a green revolution in defence and off-highway transport has been short-listed for a prestigious national award.

Exeter church opens up to give away food to those struggling

A church in Exeter is opening its doors for those who are in need of food during this time of national crisis.

Rediscover Church in Northernhay Street, Exeter are running a special ‘Food Hub’ next Wednesday 15th July from 10am-2pm and anyone – individuals, couples and families, who are finding finances tight and finding it difficult to buy food.

New look Blue Islands adds Exeter Airport to its network

Blue Islands, the Channel Islands airline, flew an ATR72 in its new corporate colours to Exeter Airport this afternoon as it confirmed the start of daily flights from Exeter to Manchester (together with Manchester to Southampton services) from 31 August.
