Food charity, FareShare South West , has announced that it will now support 5 organisations across Devon & Cornwall with emergency food support in response to the impact of Coronavirus.

Ecclesiastical launches the Movement for Good awards 2020 - giving £1million to charities in need

Specialist insurer Ecclesiastical is giving away another £1million to charities with the return of its Movement for Good awards.

In 2019 more than 2,300 kind-hearted Devon residents voted for over 140 charities across the region.

Last year saw an amazing 98,000 people around the UK support the Movement for Good awards in total, with over 7,000 charitable causes up and down the country receiving votes. The 500 winning charities were picked at random from those nominated.

Volunteers from the University of Exeter have teamed up with the local community to build thousands of disposable face shields, to help protect frontline NHS workers during the COVID-19 epidemic.

The team from the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences (EMPS) have assembled around 2,000 face shields for the local healthcare community, including the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Deaf Awareness Week sees free sign language classes launched for thousands of families

Families across England will get the chance to learn British Sign Language in the comfort of their own homes with free online classes launched today (Friday, May 8th).

The series of classes will be run by the National Deaf Children’s Society every Friday for 12 weeks as part of its Family Sign Language programme. The date was picked to mark Deaf Awareness Week (May 4th-8th).

Exeter cartoonist Ross Hendrick has recently completed his latest work, a comic book which humorously yet thoughtfully documents the struggles with social anxiety.
