Honorary degree for former Exeter MP

Former city MP Ben Bradshaw thanked University of Exeter students for “all they have given the city” as he joined their graduation ceremony to be given his own honorary degree.

Sir Ben’s award was in recognition of public service, including his achievements to boost the quality of schools in Exeter, bring jobs to the city and his campaigning for LGBT rights.

Peak performance from fundraisers for FORCE

A team of intrepid fundraisers has raised more than £20,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity by completing one of the most challenging treks in Britain.

RGB Recruitment tackled the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the three highest points in Scotland, England and Wales in just 24 hours.

After a 520-mile trip from Exeter to Glencoe in Scotland the 23 team members ascended Ben Nevis, which, at 1,344 metres (4,409ft), is the highest of the three peaks.

Creative colleagues in Exeter are inviting youngsters to get to the art of the matter by helping to raise awareness about good eye health.

To mark National Eye Health Week (23-29 September), staff at the city’s Specsavers store are inviting children to let their imaginations run wild for a drawing competition.

Vertu Jaguar Land Rover Exeter has partnered with Brendon Prince, founder of the Above Water charity, to support his mission of educating children on water safety and organising the SUP English Riviera Championships (SUPERCHAMPS).

The dealership has provided Brendon with vehicles, including a Jaguar F-Pace and Land Rover Defender, to facilitate his nationwide outreach efforts. Medical Imaging at the University of Exeter is celebrating 20 years of teaching and research excellence, training much-needed radiographers for the NHS and beyond.

Since the programme was launched in 2004 to help address a national shortage of radiographers, Medical Imaging has trained more than 1,000 radiographers, with active student placements in ten NHS trusts across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset. The programme is consistently ranked among the best in the country, producing outstanding radiographers to help meet the needs of the NHS.

South Devon College, with campuses in Paignton and Torquay, celebrated the achievements of its University Centre students at a joint ceremony held at Torquay’s Grand Hotel.
