Public Consultation Opens on Proposed Merger Between Exeter College and Petroc

Exeter College and Petroc have today launched a public consultation on a proposed merger that would see two Devon colleges come together to form a new College Group.

If approved, the new organisation, the Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group (ENDC), would serve more than 16,000 learners across Devon, employ nearly 2,000 staff and have a combined turnover exceeding £100 million.

Fore Street in Topsham could be temporarily turned into a pedestrian zone, under new plans being put forward for consultation.

First trip out since lockdown for Lionel

The red carpet was rolled out for a very special customer at Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary when Lionel Smith paid a visit.

Lionel chose the garden centre as his preferred destination to mark his 95th birthday and Otter team members worked hard - within social distancing guidelines - to make his visit memorable. They rolled out the red carpet, with a banner, balloons, cake and birthday card from founders Marilyn and Malcolm White, signed by many team members.

Call for used candles to help relight candle recycling business

If you’ve been lighting up your lockdown with candles, The Recycled Candle Company urgently needs your help!

As lockdown measures ease, owners Richard Hills-Ingyon and Sargon Latchin are asking anyone with a stockpile of used candles to either drop them off at the shop or pop them in the post so they can start production again.

Richard said: “Lockdown meant donations pretty much stopped, and without the wax, we can’t make our recycled candles.

“But we know the wax is out there as we’ve had loads of enquiries from people desperate to give us their old candles.”...

Measures to support cyclists social distancing in place

New temporary traffic calming measures to support social distancing and provide a safer environment to encourage walking and cycling in Exeter are now in place. The changes are the first set of traffic calming measures along the E3 cycle route linking Heavitree and Whipton to the City Centre. The route also passes close to four primary schools, a secondary school as well as local parks.
