Hospiscare’s Searle House gets long‑awaited lawn transformation

In 2025, Topsham business HCT Turf launched its ‘Turf it Forward’ campaign, offering up to 150 square metres of locally grown turf to a deserving community space. Hospiscare ’s Searle House in Exeter was selected as the winner, with plans to refresh the hospice garden and the lawn at the main entrance.

The team had hoped to lay the turf in November, but Storm Claudia brought heavy rain and high winds across the South West, making the work impossible. Soon after, major building works at Searle House meant the site was inaccessible, forcing the project to be put on hold.

Exeter care home staff and residents raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

Residents and staff at RMBI Care Co. Home Cadogan Court in Exeter, took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last week, raising over £80 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In the run up to the event, residents had fun making Macmillan bunting to decorate the Home. On the day, there were smiles on everyone’s faces as a trolley packed with delicious cakes and biscuits arrived.

Health Secretary urges everyone in South West to download new NHS Covid-19 app

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has called on people across the South West to download the new NHS Covid-19 app, which has now launched across England and Wales following rigorous testing and successful trials.

The NHS Covid-19 app will alert users if they have been close to someone who later tests positive for coronavirus, as well as providing risk alerts based on a user’s postcode, allow users to scan QR codes to check in at venues on the app and allow people to book tests, if they have symptoms.

£2.5 million to study group treatment programme for people with severe obesity

A team of researchers based in the Westcountry has been awarded nearly £2.5 million from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
