Exeter ranked move-friendly city

Exeter has been named one of the UK’s least stressful cities to move to, thanks to strong infrastructure, good housing availability, and ease of access to short-term services.

In a new national study released by Pay Less for Storage, Exeter scored 74 out of 100 in the “move-friendliness” index, ranking joint 10th alongside Inverness, Lancaster and Ripon. The research measured practical relocation challenges like van hire access, local self-storage options, chain-free housing stock, and the availability of short-term rentals.

A man who is walking 11,000 miles around the UK coast to raise money for Children in Need is due to arrive in Exmouth this week. Chris Howard, 37, from Cambridge, has already covered over 1150 miles walking continuously around the coasts of East Anglia, the south east and East Dorset. Chris is currently in the Lyme Regis area and will be walking to Exmouth over the next few days via Seaton, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton. Chris will continue clockwise around the UK aiming to arrive back in East Anglia in July 2021.

Jurassic Fibre has announced that Honiton and Taunton will be the next two areas to benefit from ultrafast full fibre broadband.

The extension of the company’s network is part of a pioneering £250 million project to deliver fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband technology to towns and villages in the South West, overlooked by other service providers.

Two inspirational volunteers will have trains named after them for their outstanding work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Preston De Mendonca and Jeremy Doyle were nominated by listeners to become BBC Radio Devon’s ‘Make a Difference Superstars’. They will each have a high-speed Great Western Railway (GWR) train named after them.

Preston De Mendonca was a key organiser in setting up a Good Neighbours Scheme in Cornwood, which ensured that every household was supported by at least one volunteer who could shop or run errands for those who were unable to do so.

Take off for all important Exeter-Newcastle route as Loganair restores lost Flybe service

The first service between Exeter and Newcastle took off for the first time today, as Loganair brings back connectivity between the two cities for business and leisure.

Operated using a 49-seat Embraer 145 regional jet, the service will see twice-weekly flights on Monday and Friday throughout winter with lead in fares of £54.99 each way.

The winter timetable has departures from Exeter at 11.50 on Mondays and 12.50 on Fridays, and from Newcastle at 09.50 on Mondays and 10.50 on Fridays.

Overnight closures planned at Clyst St Mary roundabout

A major roundabout on the outskirts of Exeter will undergo two weeks of overnight closures while resurfacing work is carried out from next week.

Overnight resurfacing work will be undertaken on the A376 Clyst St Mary roundabout and its approach roads (A376 Sidmouth Road, A376 Exmouth Road, A3052 Honiton Road) from Monday 21 September to Friday 2 October.

Both the roundabout and the approach roads will be closed each evening from 7pm through to 7am the next day. The road will be fully open during the daytime and at weekends.
