Exeter builders merchants’ Support Local campaign continues

RGB Building Supplies’ campaign to support businesses in the local area is continuing to give the community a chance to receive vouchers to spend at independent shops and venues.

The builders merchant has so far given away vouchers totalling £1,390 with The New Inn and Oinkers having been supported in the local area. It is still doing weekly giveaways, which include 10 £50 garden centre vouchers, five £100 holiday cottage vouchers and five £100 spa/hotel vouchers. A 10th Century silver Penny is forcing historians to reconsider the known history of Lydford, and in particular their understanding of its Anglo-Saxon coin mint.

Prior to discovery, it was thought no coins were struck in the ‘burh’ town of ‘Hlidanforda’ prior to King Edgar’s reform of the coinage in 973. That was until a chance discovery by a metal detectorist on 24 August 2020 whilst searching a Warwickshire field.

A series of overnight road closures on the A382 near Newton Abbot will get underway this evening (Monday 18 January) to enable final surfacing and road markings to be completed.

Overnight closures will be in place on Ringslade Road to Whitehills Cross each evening from 7pm-6am, starting tonight (Monday 18 January) and continuing until 6am on Thursday (21 January).

Ringslade Road to Forches Cross will then close from 7pm-6am each evening, from Thursday (21 January) until 6am on Saturday 23 January.

Stagecoach, Britain’s biggest bus operator has announced that it will become the first bus operator in the country to invest in the national roll-out of new bridge alert technology across its fleet.

The £4m project will strengthen existing measures in place to prevent bridge strikes and build on Stagecoach’s industry-leading use of the GreenRoad driver safety and fuel efficiency system.
