This summer, Brixham’s Fish Market will come alive with flavour and festivity as the South West Sardine Festival arrives on Sunday 03 August 2025, bringing a vibrant new celebration to the heart of one of Britain’s most historic fishing towns.

With the clocks set to go back on the last Sunday in October (25 Oct), Devon County Council is issuing its annual “be safe, be seen” message to road users.

The authority is reminding everyone to take extra care on Devon’s roads at this time of year, particularly in poor weather conditions when visibility may be reduced.

Cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and horse riders are encouraged to wear reflective and fluorescent clothing to ensure they can be seen.

Tributes paid to city councillor

Tributes have been paid to Exeter City Councillor Judy Pattison who died late last week at her Exeter home.

Cllr Pattison, 70, was the Labour Party member for Mincinglake and Whipton.

She was elected to office in Exeter in 2018, having previously served as a councillor in Camden in London. She was Mayor of Camden in 2002/3.

St Nicholas Priory is one of 445 heritage organisations across the country set to receive a lifesaving financial boost from the government thanks to the £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund to help them through the coronavirus pandemic.

200 new riders set to join Deliveroo in Exeter as demand for food delivery in the city soars

Deliveroo has today announced that it is rapidly expanding the number of riders it works with in Exeter. Deliveroo has been delivering meals in the city for five years now, and now works with over 120 restaurants.

The UK’s leading food delivery company has announced that it will create work for an additional 200 riders in Exeter by the end of the year. Across the UK, the company will have more than doubled the number of riders from 25,000 to more than 50,000 in the UK over the course of 2020.

Remodelled 180-year-old Almshouses are officially ‘opened’ by Exeter’s Lord Mayor

Exeter Homes Trust celebrated the completion of remodelling work at Atwill Palmer Almshouses, in Exeter’s New North Road.

Due to the pandemic, the celebration was low key, with just a few people in attendance to mark the occasion and Lord Mayor, Cllr Peter Holland, performing the official unveiling. Exeter Homes Trust was determined, however, for their 150 residents to share in the occasion and so have created a Facebook page to showcase the new apartments and the event. Matt Allwright is supporting a new Crimestoppers hotline that has been launched to help stop fraudsters illegally targeting Covid stimulus schemes.

In an initiative between government and the independent charity Crimestoppers, the public can now call the new Crimestoppers COVID Fraud Hotline (0800 587 5030) anonymously and free of charge to report suspected fraudulent activity or a simple and secure anonymous online form can be completed at Covidfraudhotline.org .

A record-breaking year of Hospiscare donations from Darts Farm pick-your-own sunflowers

Over the summer months visitors were drawn to Darts Farm’s vibrant yellow fields of pick-your-own sunflowers. These positive and cheerful flowers have raised a total of £6,542 for Darts Farm’s chosen local charity, Hospiscare, with a running total of £38,554.75 raised over the past 12 years.

There has been a lot in the press recently about the danger of lasers, with aircraft often being the target. However, we would also like to highlight that it’s not just lasers that can be of danger to aircraft, after one of ours was targeted this week by a car, aggressively flashing its headlights.

Rob Mackie, Safety Manager for Devon Air Ambulance, explains “At approximately 7.30pm on Thursday we undertook a training flight from our Exeter airbase to our North Devon airbase at Eaglescott using night vision goggles (NVGs).”
