The Devon County Show is proud to announce the launch of its first‑ever Community Growing Hub, a major new feature for 2026 designed to inspire visitors of all ages to get growing, get gardening, and get connected. The Hub will be hosted by horticulturalist and community growing advocate Kenny Raybould, who will lead a team of volunteers offering hands‑on advice, and practical support throughout the three‑day show.

Devon’s Major Geoff Bird (MBE), who has spent more than 50 years campaigning, championing, and raising money on behalf of those with learning disabilities, marks his 104th birthday on Friday (March 26).

He joined the Navy in 1940, transferred to the Army as a private before rising through the ranks in the Royal Hampshire Regiment, serving in both Italy and Greece.

He began raising money in the late 1960s alongside his late wife Molly following the birth of their severely disabled son Christopher.

Michelmores launches marathon challenge in support of mental wellbeing

Michelmores has launched a brand new event: the Michelmores Marathon for Mental Wellbeing to help raise funds for national mental health charity the Charlie Waller Trust . The event will challenge participants to run a marathon (26.2 miles) but gives runners the opportunity to spread the distance over seven days and to run the distance as an individual or as part of a team.

The marathon is launched in place of the annual Michelmores 5km Charity Run, an event which typically attracts over 1000 runners to the centre of Exeter.

Exeter School has bid farewell to its long-standing chair of governors who is standing down after 22 years of outstanding service. A governor since 1999, alumnus Andrew King is handing over the reins to current vice-chair, James Gaisford.

A group of residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Cadogan Court, in Exeter, have taught children at West Exe Nursery School how to sow seeds in preparation for the growing season. The Home arranged a video call to connect both sides so that residents could share their knowledge with the pupils, who had received various seed packets from the care home.

People in Devon who are eligible for a coronavirus vaccine are being urged to book an appointment before the end of March while there are thousands of spaces available.

Everyone aged 50 and above, people with underlying health conditions or health and care workers are among those now eligible for a vaccination.

After three generations farming at Fordmore, near Cullompton, Devon, an award-winning farm shop has now moved into the twenty first century by introducing an online shop.

Leisure Centres in Exeter receive welcome £280k boost

Sport and physical activity in Exeter has received a boost with the awarding of £280,000 government money to support the recovery of leisure centres.

Exeter City Council is one of 266 local authorities that have benefitted from the £100 million National Leisure Recovery Fund.
