Youngsters check out newly laid football pitches in Exeter

Young footballers in Exeter have been given a sneak preview of newly laid grassroots football pitches that they will play on this coming season.

Youngsters from Heavitree Youth Football Club were given a feel of the newly created playing surface at Bromhams Farm Fields. The Under 11s side will be one of the teams playing on the three pitches when the season starts next month.

Devon County Council is launching a community testing programme to identify asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus, people who show no symptoms, and is encouraging critical workers and others who are not already receiving regular testing, to start booking their appointments.

The rapid lateral flow tests give results in around 30 minutes.

The University of Exeter has distributed £1m in hardship and emergency funding to students most significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

A new play co-created by people living in the South West – due to be performed in Exeter – will show the long history of LGBTQIA loneliness and marginalisation.

Mistreatment and exclusion from society has meant LGBTQIA communities have created their own spaces for solidarity, creativity, and dialogue. The NIHR-supported Novavax COVID-19 vaccine – which was trialled in Exeter and Cornwall – has demonstrated that the vaccine is 89.3% effective at preventing COVID-19.This data was identified from interim analysis of the Phase III study and included effectiveness against the new variants.

West Country house builder Devonshire Homes has kick-started 2021 by donating £1,000 to the William Wates Memorial Trust.

Exeter boy donates presents to less fortunate children

A PUPIL at an Exeter Primary School who opted to donate presents to children less fortunate, on his birthday, rather than receiving them himself has been presented with a Certificate of Thanks.

Eight-year-old Kai Errington, who attends Westclyst Community Primary School, not only gave all his presents away, but some of his school friends also supported him and donated presents as well.
