New research by McCarthy Stone, which is behind Pym Court Retirement Living Plus development on Exeter Road, has found that almost two fifths (39%) of older people in the South West, equating to an estimated 495k, would consider moving, with more than a quarter (27%) of retirees in the region – 343k – potentially needing to downsize.

With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic creating a strong desire to move home, McCarthy Stone’s research found that South West retirees felt there were too many barriers that disincentivised them to move.

Mental health services at Cranbrook Education Campus in Devon are set to receive a £500 boost thanks to the Community Champions scheme operated by regional housebuilder Persimmon Homes South West.

Exeter and Potsdam agree 'tipping points' partnership

The University of Exeter and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) have signed an agreement to jointly investigate climate change tipping points.

PIK and Exeter's Global Systems Institute (GSI) conduct cutting-edge climate research, and are setting the agenda on identifying positive tipping points to tackle the climate crisis, reverse biodiversity decline and achieve sustainability.

Devon authorities pledge support to Ukrainians fleeing conflict

Local authority leaders across Devon have spoken out in concern for the people of Ukraine and their families, following the Russian invasion.

Team Devon authorities, including Devon County and District Councils and the Devon Association of Local Councils, have pledged to work together to support Ukrainian refugees seeking sanctuary in the UK, and have each condemned Russia's actions.

Exeter’s Pyramids leisure centre closes for good

Exeter’s Pyramids leisure centre has closed for good after more than 80 years.

The site on Heavitree Road was planning to shut permanently when nearby St Sidwell’s Point opens in April, but the closure has been brought forward due to storm damage.
