Guitar indie-pop band Pale Waves and Mercury-nominated The Big Moon are the latest acts heading to the south Devon countryside for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

The bands are joining the line-up for seven-time GRAMMY Award winning Canadian / American artist Alanis Morissette ’s headline show with special guest musical powerhouse Skunk Anansie at TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham on Friday June 26.

Community relay run will bring the epic journey of the Exe Salmon to life

A community relay event designed to celebrate the epic journey of the Atlantic Salmon is set to take place along the banks of the River Exe next month.

The Salmon Run is a 50-mile relay that will travel upriver from Exmouth, passing through the city of Exeter, and culminating at Tarr Steps on Exmoor – echoing the migration undertaken by the fish to their spawning grounds.

The event, which will be open to the public, will also raise awareness of the plight of the species, whose numbers have crashed catastrophically over the past 50 years.

South Devon College A level students are celebrating their exam results today with a 98% overall pass rate.

This year sees the continuation of the College’s history of high pass rates with 70% A*- C and around half of the cohort achieving an excellent A* to B result.

The College is celebrating 100% achievement rates across a broad mix of subjects including English literature and language, maths, physics, business and politics.

Heart of the South West LEP award £2m in funding for digital skills and business support

The Heart of the South West LEP have today announced that they have awarded funding for two new programmes providing digital skills and digital business support in the Heart of the South West region.

The Digital Skills Programme will be delivered through Devon County Council, and the Digital Skills Utilisation Programme will be delivered through Devon County Council and the Heart of the South West Growth Hub. Both programmes are due to run until March 2025 across Somerset, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

Hit concert show Lost in Music is coming to Exeter Northcott Theatre on Friday 16 September.

Disco’s roots are firmly founded in the early Seventies, says James Taylor, producer of the hit touring concert show Lost in Music... which hits town in the coming weeks.

“It was a time when Motown Records’ biggest stars began to get funky,” he says. “Philadelphia Records became a hit song conveyor belt with its distinctive combination of soulful vocals and lush arrangements. Keeping Exeter’s waterways safe and free from obstructions

Vital work to keep the Exe Estuary free of navigational obstructions has been carried out by the city’s Harbour Patrol Team.

The Team, who work for the City Council as part of the city’s Port Authority, spent much of Sunday night re-floating a 28ft abandoned yacht on the banks of the River Exe near Turf Lock.

The yacht had been left to decay in the water and was considered a navigational danger to other vessels in the estuary, as well as a threat to wildlife and the environment.
