Vita Student Exeter has launched a new sustainable initiative to help decrease waste and give pre-loved goods a second lease of life thanks to the Vita Student Swap Shop.

With the average person reportedly throwing 400kg of waste away every year*, the impact that individuals can have on the environment is significant.

Experts in medical history and English Literature at the University of Exeter have helped to secure a new multi-million-pound research grant for a project that will look at how our concept of time impacts the way we approach global health crises.

‘After the end: lived experiences and aftermaths of diseases, disasters, and drugs in global health’ is an interdisciplinary collaboration that will examine how humanity’s propensity to look for a clear ‘beginning, middle and end’ frames the use of resources and shapes its ethics and care policies and practice.

Appeal after collision in Exeter

Police investigating a road traffic collision in Alphington, Exeter, involving a car and a pedestrian, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a grey Ford Focus and a female pedestrian in Church Road, Alphington, at around 8.45am on Friday 26 August.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, sustained life changing injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

There’s just over a month left to apply for free trees from Devon County Council.

Devon County Council is offering free packs of trees to landowners and communities within Devon, thanks to the Emergency Tree Fund granted by The Woodland Trust.

Each pack will contain 45 trees, comprising three types of native broadleaved tree commonly found throughout the county.

A total of 3,150 trees were planted by landowners across Devon who took part in the scheme last year, which also supported The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee...

Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter invited the local community and their pooches into their home to celebrate National Dog Day on August 25th, without a doubt one of the best days of the year!

Residents and staff put together Doggy Party Bags which included a variety of yummy treats and tennis balls, and the Chef made some delicious cakes and biscuits for the humans. Work starts on highly anticipated Cranbrook Town Centre

Construction of the new Cranbrook town centre is due to start on Tuesday 30th August.

The consortium of developers, Henry Davidson, Hallam Land Management, Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon will start work on a supermarket, high street shops with homes above, a town square and a children’s day nursery.

Animal Free Research UK supporter completes trek from Bude to Exeter to raise funds for charity 

Animal lover Penny Baxter trekked from Bude to an Exeter research building, to fundraise for the University of Exeter's Animal Free Research UK Centre of Excellence (ARC).
