Devon County Council highways gritters prepare for winter

Devon’s highways teams prepared for winter

With temperatures forecast to drop next week Devon’s highways teams say they’re prepared to face whatever the elements throw at the county’s roads over the next few months.

Gritting depots across the county are fully stocked with around 24,000 tonnes of salt and Devon County Council’s upgrade of its winter fleet has continued, with eight of its 37 frontline gritters replaced with newer models this year.

Exeter Northcott hits stretch target of gifting 750 Christmas theatre tickets

Exeter Northcott has reached its stretch goal of gifting 750 tickets for family Christmas show Robin Hood to children, young people and carers in Devon through its Pay It Forward audience donation campaign.

The theatre had already achieved its initial end-of-year aim of giving away 500 tickets through the scheme to people who might not otherwise be able to experience the magic of theatre at Christmas in October.

In total, 1234 people donated £12,559 towards the Northcott’s Pay It Forward campaign this year.

Award-winning Devon-based broadband company, Jurassic Fibre , has saved the day by stepping in to help light up Exmouth’s historic community tree, just in time for Christmas.

Exmouth’s community tree is at Exmouth’s Magnolia Centre in the pedestrian walkway, a popular shopping hotspot for tourists and locals alike. The tree is a traditional Norwegian spruce, measuring at over 40 ft tall, and has an 80-year history in the Magnolia Centre.

On Friday 18th November, local businesses, partners, funders and supporters of Step One gathered at Reed Hall, Exeter University to celebrate the charity’s rich history, incredible staff and advocates, along with paying homage to the Late Queen Elizabeth who was patron of the charity from 1946 – 2022. With a mini exhibition showcasing Step One/St Loye’s long history and photos showcasing the Queen’s visits throughout the years, those in attendance were able to learn more about the charity's fantastic work across Devon whilst enjoying a quintessentially British, sweet scone-filled lunch....
