Gandy Street is the place to be on the First Thursdays of the month this summer

First Thursdays is a new event you won’t want to miss.

From June to September, Gandy Street will come alive on the first Thursday of each month, with a festival atmosphere in the early evening.

The first event takes place on Thursday 4 June, 5–8pm. Expect late-night shopping, live music, street entertainment, extended opening hours at cultural venues and a cocktail trail. All your favourite businesses on Gandy Street and in the surrounding area will be open, including:

Dog walking zones come into force from May

With the summer months approaching, restrictions for dog walking on East Devon’s beaches will soon be in force.

Each year, East Devon District Council (EDDC) limits areas where dogs can be exercised during the summer months, as it looks to ensure all beach goers can enjoy the area.

Following a public consultation exercise at the end of last year, there are a number of changes to the restrictions which come into effect from 1 May 2023. These include additional dogs on leads areas and an increase in the fixed penalty notice charge from £80 to £100.

National law firm, Enable Law, has settled a case for a Plymouth Dock worker following life-threatening incident and injuries sustained at work in 2019.

Enable Law's client was acting as a Banksman for a crane which was removing pallets from a ship's hold when the accident happened. Aldi is recruiting new colleagues in Devon as a result of its continued expansion in the area.

In a welcome boost to the local economy, the UK’s fastest growing supermarket is currently recruiting for at least 40 Store Assistants, ranging from 10 - 30 hours per week.

Aldi is looking to hire for these roles at three stores in the area: Forde Close Store in Newton Abbot, Brixham Road Store in Paignton and the new Kerswell Gardens Store in Torquay, due to open later this year.

This week, Estuary League of Friends, begins work on new social activities from their community hub, Nancy Potter House, thanks to a grant from Global’s Make Some Noise.

Five Volvo motor retailers in the South West are being renamed, following the acquisition of Helston Garages Group Limited by Vertu Motors plc in December 2022.

The showrooms in Barnstaple, Exeter, Taunton, Yeovil and Truro have been brought under the Vertu Motors retail brand.
