Devon County Show Confirms 106,000 Visitors in Another Record-Breaking Year

The tickets have now been counted, and Devon County Show has officially confirmed an audited attendance of 106,000 visitors for 2026 — an uplift of 5,000 on last year’s record-breaking figure.

This year’s Show coincided with the late May half‑term break, a rare calendar alignment that contributed to an especially strong family turnout. While children go free on Saturday and therefore cannot be fully audited, the organisers witnessed a noticeably higher number of young visitors enjoying the attractions, activities and livestock displays.

Engage hub launches in Exeter

A new initiative to help ex-offenders leaving prisons re-integrate into the community will launch tomorrow.

Named the Engage Hub, the initiative will offer an open and relaxed atmosphere where ex-offenders and those with extra needs can access various services by drop-in appointments, in a single place.

Exmouth residents reminded to secure their homes

Exmouth police are reminding residents in the town to keep their windows and doors locked at all times, even when inside their homes.

In the last month there has been an increase in burglaries at urban areas in Exmouth that have occurred overnight, while the occupants are upstairs sleeping.

Entry has been gained by ground floor doors that have been left unlocked, and various small items such as alcohol, cash and small electrical goods have been stolen.

Final consultation on Devon Waste Plan

The final consultation on Devon County Council’s new Waste Plan starts today (Monday 2 December) and runs for 12 weeks.

The Devon Waste Plan and all representations made on the plan will be submitted to the Government for examination by a planning inspector after this latest consultation ends on 24 February 2014.

Fifth man arrested for Alphington Road murder

A 20 year-old man from Coventry has been arrested in connection with the murder of Stephen Crook.

The man who remains in police custody, is the fifth man to be arrested in the investigation.

So far four others have been charged with the murder of Crook, 43 on Alphington Road on 21 November.

They are: Steve Webster, 40 from Okehampton, Ryan singleton, 25 and Darren Twigger, 39 from Coventry and an unnamed 17 year-old boy also from Coventry.

All four are due to appear in Exeter Crown Court on 19 December.

Devon businesses named as 'inspirational'

Local Devon Businesses have been named as real growth industries as part of the London Stock Exchange group's ‘1000 companies that inspire Britain.’

The companies included Emcas based in Paignton, chartered accountants Francis Clark LLP and Masons Kings an agricultural machinery company with three depots in Devon.

Echo editor to leave for Plymouth role

The editor of the Express & Echo is leaving to run the newspaper's sister title in Plymouth.

Paul Burton was appointed to the Exeter post in June this year.

He replaces Ian Wood, the former editor of Plymouth's The Herald, who left last week after 20 months in the job.

Former drink driver helps Police campaign

A new anti-drink driving campaign for the festive period will see Devon and Cornwall Police team up with a convicted drink driver.

The 33-year-old Plymouth University student lost his licence after being caught beind the wheel while three times over the legal limit.

The student, who wishes not to be named, is now supporting the Force in its annual drink drive campaign which runs throughout December.
