The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

Repairs to the B3193 Teign Valley to begin

A programme of works to repair the B3193 in the Teign Valley near Chudleigh will begin early 2014 with the first road closure planned for Monday 13th January.

The closure will be for 5 days until Friday 17th January from 9:00am to 3:30pm.

The B3193 at Whetcombe Barton sustained major damage during last year’s flooding events as the county was left with an £18 million repair bill to its highway network.

Beautiful new boardwalk for Decoy Country Park

Creative school children have helped make award-winning Decoy Country Park an even better place to be.

Pupils from Decoy Primary School joined up Teignbridge District Council's Countryside Ranger Simon Cunningham and Devon Wildlife Trust to create illustrations and poetry for the handrails of a new boardwalk at Magazine Pond. It has new ramped access for pushchairs and wheelchairs so people have easy and safe access to the water’s edge.

The boardwalk is made from English oak and replaces a previous one in softwood which had come to the end of its life.

Otter Nurseries Announces Charity of the Year 2014

It was a great start to 2014 for emergency couriers Devon Freewheelers when they were named Charity of the Year by Otter Nurseries.

The popular garden centre near Ottery St Mary has pledged to help the charity raise enough money for a brand new bike, enabling it to provide an even more efficient voluntary service to the NHS, transporting blood and other medical supplies across Devon.

The Creation Station Exeter & Mid Devon currently provides creative children's art and craft classes at various venues in and around Exeter. Their Little Explorer sessions for 1 – 5 year olds focus not on the end product, but on the journey of discovery the children experience whilst making their creations.

Bad weather set to continue into next week

It would appear the bad weather is here to stay, with the Met Office issuing Yellow Weather Warnings of both rain and wind.

Today ( Monday 6th January) strongs winds of up to 60mph are due to hit the South West, with coastal areas being particularly affected.

The public are asked to take extra caution around coastal areas during these weather conditions.

Road traffic collison on A38

A road traffic collision on the A38 at Wrangaton, near Ivybridge, Devon resulted in a non fatal casualty.

The incident, involving a single vehicle, occured at 1.15pm on Saturday 4th January.

Appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident by the police.

1 fire appliance from Buckfastleigh, 1 from Ivybridge and 1 from Ashburton were mobilised to the incident.

Woman injured in flat fire

Appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service were called to a fire at a flat in Exeter on Saturday 4th January.

The fire resulted in two casulties, with an ambulance being called for an adult female casualty.

Fire Engines from Middlemoor and Danes Castle along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Danes Castle attended the incident involving a fire within a first floor flat at Musgrave House, Musgrave Row.

On arrival the crews stated that this was a confirmed fire in the living room within the first floor flat and got to work using 2 sets of breathing...

Plymouth man charged with Murder

A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a man in Plymouth on Friday 3rd January 2014.

Samuel Watts of King Street, Plymouth, will appear at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday 6th January after being charged with the offence on Saturday 4th January.

Police and ambulance were called to a property in King Street, Stonehouse, after concerns for welfare for a man inside. On entering the property they found a 38-year-old man who had sustained a serious stab wound. He was treated by ambulance staff but was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Lads and dads are being called to take part in a rugby day out for Hospiscare in 2014.

The 10k Hospiscare Men’s Walk is a great way to spend a lads’ day out alongside friends and family members, with the male bonding continuing post-walk with a pint, pasty and three Six Nations rugby matches.

The third annual Men’s Walk will once again commence from the home of the Exeter Chiefs on Saturday March 15. The walk takes in spectacular views of the City as it goes through Ludwell Valley Park before heading back to the finish line at Sandy Park.

Emergency services stay on high alert

Emergency services will remain on high alert for further flooding tonight.

Over 30 flood warnings are in place in the South West but there are no 'Severe' flood warnings in place with the high tide around 8pm tonight is expected to be lower than last night.

However Met Office warnings against severe wind and rain will continue to remain in place through to the evening with a further weather warning for rain issued for Sunday.

The poor weather and flooding is still causing travel disruptions to much of the county today with a lightning and hail storm knocking out...
