The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

Drugs worth £90,000 seized in Brixham

Drugs worth £90,000 have been seized by police after raids were carried out in Brixham.

PC Dave Thomas, assisted by other members of the Brixham and Paignton Neighbourhood Team, conducted a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant in Brixham on Friday (10 January).

The warrant and subsequent searches in the Furzeham area of the town resulted in over £90,000 worth of cocaine and heroin being discovered along with cannabis and a quantity of cash.

Fire Service called to car fire in Topsham

Crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to a car fire in Topsham this morning ( Tuesday 14th January).

A vehicle was confirmed as well alight when crews attended the incident at 9.14 this morning.

One fire appliance from Topsham attended.Crews got to work with two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to put the fire out.

The vehicle was severely damaged by the fire, and the cause was accidental.

MENTORING someone who is going through a difficult time in their life can be challenging but rewarding, according to the coordinator of an Exeter charity project.

Laura Callaway at Transitions, a project of Exeter Community Initiatives, is looking for volunteers who feel they have skills to offer people who have been homeless, faced mental illness or experienced addiction.

Ambulance, Police and Fire Service attend roadside incident

Ambulance crew, Police Officers and Appliances from The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident at Stoney Lane Hill, Tiverton to Rackenford Road this morning ( Tuesday 14th January).

One fire appliance from Tiverton and one from Witheridge attended an RTC involving a single vehicle that had left the road and gone into a hedge at around 8.30 this morning.

Crews confirmed all persons free and clear of the vehicle, and made the vehicle safe.

Police and Ambulance also attended.

Devon health bosses sign tobacco declaration

Devon County Council bosses will be signing up to a national initiative this Thursday (Jan 16), to protect its residents’ health from the risks associated with smoking.

Essential drainage repairs needed in Barrack Road

Barrack Road in Exeter will be closed to traffic between the Topsham Road and Wonford Road junctions for essential drainage repairs and associated works, for three weeks from Monday 27 January.

Mickey attends mine rescue exercise

Mickey, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service's live scent rescue dog, recently attended an exercise in Wales along with his handler Paul West.

The team were working alongside the London Fire & Rescue Services own Urban Search and Rescue team.

The exercise was a mine rescue and took place over two days in Dinas in the Rhondda, Wales, involving a simulation of a collapsed three storey building with an unknown number of casualties inside that were either trapped or missing.

Woman rescued from waist-deep mud

Police have rescued a woman in her 70s who was walking on Dartmoor and managed to get trapped in a bog.

At about 1.45pm on Saturday 11 January police received a call from a woman who said she was stuck on the moors.

Mobile phone reception was poor and it was not clear initially where she was or why she was stuck.
