The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

New Bishop of Exeter announced

The next Bishop of Exeter is the Rt Revd Robert Atwell, currently Bishop of Stockport in the Diocese of Chester. His appointment was announced this morning by the Prime Minister’s office.

Bishop Robert will become the 71st bishop of the Diocese of Exeter which comprises more than 500 parishes across the county of Devon.

Aged 59, he spent ten years as a Benedictine monk at Burford Priory in Oxfordshire, and then served as a parish priest in London before becoming Bishop of Stockport in 2008.

Exeter Parkinson’s patient releases book of poems

An Exeter man with Parkinson’s disease and whose sight is severely impaired has defied the odds by releasing a book of poetry.

David Burchfield’s book has already proved a hit with medical professionals, local writers and friends and is now available to the public via his new website.

The book, called Reflexions on Life, includes material from the 1960s through to after David was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1995.

David is treated at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by consultant neurologist Dr Tim Harrower and has received physiotherapy from the city’s community...

Over £21m of services cut from Devon's people budget

Councillors at a budget scrutiny meeting of Devon county council have recommended a real terms spending cut of £21.4 million from the authority’s people services.

The authority’s people services which cover areas such as the youth service, child protection services, adult social care and schools and education will see some services reduce their abilities.

However due to ongoing spending pressures including those from the review of the council’s child protection services the people budget will only make savings of £4 million on last year’s budget.

Christmas is a magical time of year for all of us, and the staff at Angela court always try to make Christmas as special as possible for the residents that stay with them.

It’s been all hands on deck as Devon Building Control Partnership ensures the recent bad weather has minimal impact on public safety.

With high winds, storms, flooding and plummeting temperatures have an effect on roads and buildings, surveyors have been out and about around the clock dealing with dangerous structures and road risks.
