The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

Neil Parish MP supports call for jobs and growth

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, attended an event at the House of Commons highlighting the new jobs and extra contribution to public finances that would be generated by scrapping the super tax on wine and spirits.

Organised by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, the event helped publicise independent research by Ernst & Young, which has found that 6000 new jobs would be created and an extra £230 million generated for the public finances if the super tax were scrapped in the March Budget.

Participants needed for The Day We Played Brazil

Exeter Community Arts Project is searching for 120 people aged from 11 to 99 to make and perform The Day We Played Brazil, the new musical play which is set to be the biggest cultural event in Exeter for many years.

Central to the story are the 1914 Exeter City football team so we are calling all young men out there who’d like to have a go at singing and dancing to come along and get involved.

Six On Saddles complete 32 miles for Exmouth RNLI

Volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew members from Exmouth, Max Champion, Stephen Satchell, Paul Fox, Lee Manning, Neil Cannon and Hedley Saunders completed a 32 mile cycle from Supacat in Dunkeswell to Exmouth RNLI lifeboat station on Saturday (25 January) to raise funds towards the new launch and recovery vehicle needed for the Exmouth’s new Shannon class lifeboat. The challenge, made even harder as the cyclists were wearing full all weather RNLI lifeboat kit, celebrated the charity’s SOS Day which is on Friday 31 January.

Batten down the hatches yet again - another storm is heading our way this weekend.

This January has been the wettest for 100 years and looks set to end as it started.

Police seek man last seen in Devon

Police seeking a man connected to the murder of 72-year-old David Alderson in Falmouth believe he may be in Devon.

Devon and Cornwall police’s Crime Investigation Team are urgently seeking to trace Kevin Cooper, 33, from Redruth, who is wanted in connection with Mr Alderson’s death.

The last believed sighting of Kevin Cooper was in the Mutley Plain area of Plymouth during the early hours of Tuesday 28th January.

Officers are conducting active enquires in Plymouth in an attempt to locate and arrest him.

Devon Winter Ability Games Success

The Devon Winter Ability Games took place at the Plymouth Life Centre on the 24th January and has been hailed as a great success.

Over 400 young people with disabilities from 30 schools across Devon attended the event taking part in a range of events including football, table cricket and tennis. There were also taster sessions in Archery, Boccia and Tri Golf.

South West has wettest January on record

Early Met Office statistics for January 2014 show that the southeast and central southern England region has already had its wettest January in records going back to 1910, with three days still to go.

A large area of southern England from East Devon to Kent and inland across parts of the midlands has already seen twice the average rainfall for the month.

Southeast and central southern England has received more than twice its average rainfall with 175.2 mm of rain from 1 - 28 January. This beats the previous record of 158.2 mm set in January 1988.
