Live music fans are set for another celebration of amazing entertainment in the Devon countryside as TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham confirms its return for 2026.

City council to review dogs lead policy

Exeter City Council has said today that it would be looking at its policy regarding dogs on leads in parks following a recent attack in Belmont Park last weekend.

The recent attack left dog owner Helen Dale in RD&E hospital after another dog attacked her Jack Russell, Poppy.

The dog’s owners, a man and a woman in their 20s, have not yet been traced.

The attack comes after a Pit bull type dog attacked and killed a Yorkshire terrier in August.

The attack also took place in Belmont Park and saw the pit bull breed dog destroyed under the Dangerous Dogs Act...

The eastern Sahara Desert was once home to a 45,000 km2 freshwater lake similar in surface area to the largest in the world today. A study led by the University of Exeter has revealed that the mega lake was probably formed more than one hundred thousand years ago in the White Nile River Valley in Sudan. £7m shopping centre plans go on show

Members of the public will be able to see at first hand Aviva Investors’ £7 million plans for the remodelling of the Guildhall Shopping Centre in Exeter at an event to be held on Tuesday 21 January.

The event will take place between 11am and 4pm at Unit 13 in the Centre’s Market Arcade and will feature a display showing architect’s drawings, CGIs and artist’s impressions. It will also include details about the thought processes behind the designs, the materials to be used and the timescales involved in the project.

Spate of Burglaries in Ilfracombe

Police in Ilfracombe are investigating a series of burglaries where credit cards, TVs, laptops and even a car have been taken from homes in the area.

The burglaries which began in the New Year have targeted insecure homes usually during the night.

A police spokesperson said: “We are advising residents to be extra vigilant and ensure all doors and ground floor windows are secured at night, including sheds and garages.

“If anyone who has seen anyone acting suspiciously or has any information about this recent spate please let us know.”

Inquest to be held as Harry Martin is formally identified

The body recovered from the sea last Saturday (11 January) has been formally identified as the missing teenager Harry Martin today (16 January).

A formal inquest into the death of Mr Martin, who went missing from his home in Newton Ferrers during the height of the recent storms, is due to begin next Monday (20 January).

The 18-year-old’s body was found in Carswell Bay in the Noss Mayo area by friends who were aiding in the search effort using sea kayaks.

Exeter City Council raise council tax by 2%

Exeter City Council has proposed raising its charges for city council services by nearly 2% costing some residents over £260 a year.

The council has said the decision to raise their council tax charges by 1.99% is subject to the Government’s decision on how much councils can raise their tax by.

The average tax charge is set to rise to over £132 a year on properties in the band D property but can rise as high as £260 a year for those on the H council tax band.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging motorists and garage owners to be vigilant following a spate of catalytic converter thefts. Catalytic converters are used to decrease air pollution by converting toxic exhaust emissions into non-toxic substances.
