A Devon-based boat club says more people across Devon are turning away from traditional ownership in favour of flexible memberships that offer access to the sea without the expense and upkeep of owning a vessel.

Freedom Boat Club, which operates from Beacon Quay in Torquay Harbour, has reported growing interest as rising maintenance costs, storage fees and insurance bills make private boat ownership increasingly expensive for many households.

Instead, members pay a monthly fee to access a fleet of boats that are cleaned, fuelled, insured and maintained by the company....

A Government planning inspector has rejected appeals by developers on controversial proposals to build over 200 new homes in the village of Feniton.

The combined appeals, heard at the Feniton ‘Super Inquiry’ in January, saw three developers challenge decisions on a total of four proposals previously refused by East Devon District Council (EDDC).

A scuba diving Easter Bunny will be the star of the show at Living Coasts this Easter.

On Saturday 12th April the Easter Bunny will swim with the penguins at Torquay’s coastal zoo.

Residents of Seaton are being invited by EDDC and Seaton Town Council to choose how they would spend £82,000 available for sports provision.

The project(s) with the most votes will be delivered.

Council to discuss demolishing library

Plans to demolish and redevelop the Topsham library building are due to be discussed by Exeter City Coucnil’s planning committee next week. The proposals submitted by the Estuary League of Friends (ELoF) seek full planning permission to demolish the existing building and replace it with a 2-storey contemporary building to act as a community hub facility. Body found on beach after Coast Guard Search

The body of a missing 59-year-old man was found near Lyme Regis this afternoon following a search by East Devon coastguards.

The man is thought to have fallen overboard while on the water sometime today

The search launched around 1pm today saw all Lyme Bay coastguard teams including Exmouth Coast Guard and Sidmouth Lifeboat attempt a search for missing man.

As of 2:30 pm the search was stood down following the discovery of the body on a beach near Lyme Regis.

New Design for £90,000 Skate Park

Young people from Honiton have now chosen a second £90,000 design for their skate park at voting events held by East Devon District Council. A second round of voting was called by the council after the 1st choice company, voted for in December last year, was unable to fulfil their contract. A significant number of Young people took part in the three voting events to pick another design with 58% picking the new design by skate park design company Maverick. Beware of new Facebook Fraud

Cybercriminals have come up with a new scheme to trick Facebook users into handing over their credentials. They’ve launched a bogus voting campaign to lure potential victims to a phishing site.

According to experts from Symantec, the phishers have set up a bogus voting website where they ask users the question “Who is greater boys or girls?” Once they cast their vote, internauts are asked to log in to their Facebook accounts and say if they’re male or female.

Can you help catch Exmouth fly-tippers?

East Devon District Council is asking for help from the public about two serious fly tipping incidents in the Exmouth area.

The first was dumped asbestos and the other was multiple bags of dog mess that were left by a dog waste bin.
