Broken down by region, detailed MoT data reveals that Exeter is among the bottom ten places for MoT passes with a 53 per cent pass rate. The most common reasons for failure were lamps, reflectors and electrical equipment (23.6 per cent of failures), followed by suspension (17.5 per cent of failures) and brakes (14.4 per cent of failures). Spring is finally doing its thing at Knightshayes. It has come not a moment too soon as on Monday 12 May the National Trust property on the outskirts of Tiverton is hosting its annual National Gardens Scheme (NGS) open day.

Thousands of people have gathered in Exeter today for what is thought to be Exeter's largest ever Pride event

Exeter Pride 2014 promised to be the biggest, most colourful event to date with more than 2,000 people thought to have taken part in the parade down Exeter's High Street before attending a full programme of activities held at Exeter Phoenix in Gandy Street.

Community groups, firefighters, police, students, trade union groups and individuals were among those taking part in the parade.

South West set for a windy evening

Saturday may be nearly over, but it looks like the wind is here to stay. The Met Office have issued a Yellow weather warning of wind, with high gales set to hit the South West until midnight tonight.

Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are predicted for the region this evening.

The public should be aware that this could lead to difficult driving conditions and perhaps some disruption to outdoor activities.

Firefighters called to restaurant fire in Seaton

Three fire appliances from Seaton, Colyton and Axminster were called to tackle a fire that had broken out in the ventilation system of a restaurant in Seaton.

The incident, which occured just after 9am this morning, resulted in firefighters using a thermal imaging camera, a hose reel jet and a dry powder extinguisher to extinguish the fire.

Council shows support for Exeter Pride

Councillors, staff and colleagues from voluntary and public sectors attended a flag flying ceremony at County Hall to mark Exeter Pride, which takes place today (Saturday 10 May).

The flag was raised at the entrance to County Hall, Topsham Road, Exeter, by Chief Executive, Phil Norrey.

This week, the residents at Angela Court Nursing Home had a wonderful visit from Archie the dog. Friends and family raising money in memory of Sharon Bridgman, a Devon woman killed while on a round-the-world cycle challenge, are close to raising their £10,000 target.

Sharon, 38 from near Okehampton, was cycling in Bolivia with her husband Tim when she was struck and killed by a motorist. The couple, were in Boliva as part of a two-year journey that had already taken them from Norway across Europe and Africa to raise money for a disaster relief charity.
