Local authorities fund Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving to help get local people into work and support regional employers to secure the drivers they need

Rare Devon Bird Rescued From Extinction

A rare South Devon Bird has been rescued from the brink of extinction following an EU-funded recovery programme. The cirl bunting, native to South Devon, almost died out 25 years ago having falling to just over 100 pairs in 1989 due to the lack of food and nesting sites. Now following an extensive recovery programme to protect their environments bankrolled by the European Rural Development stewardship fund numbers are making a steady return with just under 1000 pairs estimated to live in the South Devon area. 'Suspicious' Fire at West Exe College

A Secondary school in Exeter was evacuated this morning after a ‘suspicious’ building fire was discovered. Staff and Students were evacuated from West Exe Technology College in St. Thomas after a fire was discovered in the school’s toilets at around 11am this morning. Fire crews from Middle moor and Danes Castle were dispatched to the school following several calls from the public. On arrival, crews confirmed a small fire in the ground floor toilet block. Thousands tackle the muddy extremes at Escot

Almost 4,000 people took to Escot Park at the weekend to tackle hydro slides, cargo climbs and extreme amounts of mud as runners faced the challenging RockSolidRace – one of the country’s muddiest and wettest obstacle courses.

A menagerie of creatures great and very small will scuttle into Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park on Friday 28 March for the official opening of the brand new attraction, Bugz Unlimited.

The new attractions represent part of a £1 million investment in the Park’s 25th anniversary year and will officially be opened by TV Wildlife Presenter, Nick Baker.

New Daily Coach Links to Exeter Airport

Catching a flight to and from the South West could be about to get easier as the Stagecoach group announce a new daily transport link to Exeter Airport.

The new link, from Stagecoach’s megabusplus services, will see all four of its routes to and from the Honiton rail hub stop at Exeter Airport from this week.

The group say that the new service will provide a ‘seamless link’ between London and the West Country by using a combination of their megabus.com buses as well as the rail links at Honiton.

Rare frog found after three year search

A Devon conservation charity has found a rare African frog after a painstaking search lasting three years.

The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, which runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall, carries out fieldwork with rare amphibians in the mountains of Eastern Tanzania.

The work is funded by zoo visitors and supporters and carried out with the charity’s partners, Manchester Metropolitan University and Museo delle Scienze, Trento, Italy.

Exeter homes take part in mass energy study

Over seventy families from council owned properties across Exeter have joined a University of Bath study that aims to reduce energy use within homes. It has long been known that identical homes with identical numbers of occupants differ greatly in the amount they spend on energy.
