Over £150,000 to go to East Devon Commmunities

Communities around East Devon are about to see an extra cash injection after parish and town councils successfully bid for over £150,000 of fresh funding.

In total, £155,558 will be placed in the district’s ‘Parishes Together Fund’ after East Devon District Council and Devon County Council worked together to raise the sum equal to £1.10 per elector. Projects including the Ottery Food Bank, the Cranbrook Community fund, the Axminster mental health organisation known as ‘The Project’ as well as several primary schools in the area are among the projects to benefit from the funding....

Officers investigating a robbery in Honiton have released further images of a man they are urgently trying to trace. A team of dedicated officers are now involved in the investigation following the robbery which took place at Banwell Antiques, in Honiton over the weekend. The incident took place as a female staff member, who was working alone, opened up the store at around 9am. The woman was grabbed from behind by the suspect before being tied up. Devon clothing brand celebrates success

This time last year, two Devon students were piecing together their ideas to create a new lifestyle brand, and in May they will celebrate a year since the launch of Elsie & Arthur.

Jack Williams, 22, and Allie Lawson, 21, both originally from North Devon, set up the brand after being awarded a launcher loan from School For Startups, founded by ex-Dragons’ Den investor Doug Richards.

Elderly woman seriously injured in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Seaton which left an elderly pedestrian with serious injuries. Emergency services were called to Harbour Road around 10.50am yesterday morning (23 March) after a Mercedes car was in collision with an 89-year-old woman near to the junction with Bay Court.

The elderly woman, from Seaton, sustained serious head, leg and arm injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance. She remains in hospital in a serious condition. The car driver, a 90-year-old woman from east Devon, was uninjured in...

Reynolds Painting Saved for Devon

A successful fundraising auction by the Friends of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery has ensured that a portrait commemorating the friendship of two of Devon’s most famous artists has been saved for Devon.

With over £12,000 raised at the art auction last Wednesday and assistance from the V&A Purchase Grant Fund, the Portrait of the artist Francis Hayman (1708-1776) by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) can be added to Exeter’s art collection.

ECC's new online service to 'make life easier'

People can now gain access to online accounts for a number of council services, Exeter City Council has announced.

The City Council has created a self-service online account for customers, making it easier to access things like benefits and council tax payments.

Residents can register for Council Tax e-billing, allowing them to get an email notification instead of receiving a paper bill.

Man found in River Exe named locally

A 56-year-old man whose body was found in the River Exe on Saturday morning has been named locally as Kevin Osmond. Although not yet named by police, tributes for Mr Osmond were posted on facebook yesterday evening. Local man Steve Power dedicated a photograph to Mr Osmond with a message of condolence. Police helicopter over Exeter

Police helicopters were dispatched over Exeter late last night to aid in the search for a missing man. Emergency services called for assistance from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) after concerns were raised for the man’s welfare. A police helicopter team located the man in the Ludwell Valley area shortly after midnight and officers on the ground were directed to him.

Tickets are now available for Devon's not-for-profit sports awards.

The Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Awards, in association with Active Devon, will once again be hosted at Sandy Park, the home of cup winning Premiership rugby team the Exeter Chiefs.

They will be hosted by BBC Spotlight's Jenny Walrond and the special guest will be medal winning British athlete Kriss Akabusi.
