When people think about dementia, they often think about memory loss, diagnosis, or the practical aspects of care.

What is spoken about far less is the emotional toll of trying to navigate support systems, whilst also coping with the reality of someone you care about living with dementia.

Devon and Cornwall Police are reported to have launched fresh talks with prosecutors into the disappearance of Aylesbeare schoolgirl Genette Tate, 36 years ago. 13-year-old Genette disappeared on 9 August 1978 whilst delivering newspapers in Aylesbeare in East Devon. Fire at Devon caravan park

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the Lady's Mile Caravan Park in Dawlish this morning after a car was found on fire.

The fire service were alerted to the incident at 3.14 am, and on arrival found a vehicle to be well alight along with approximately ten feet of fence panel. They got to work fighting the fire using two sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets. The car was extinguished using the above equipment but was severely damaged by fire.

Police also attended as it was believed to have been deliberate ignition.

Firefighters rescue baby from car

Firefighters were called to Dunelm Mill Car Park on the Sowton Industrial Estate, to rescue a baby that was trapped inside a vehicle.

Crew from Middlemoor attended the scene at 3.10pm on Sunday after a report that a baby had become accidently locked in a vehicle.

The fire crew released the baby from the vehicle by making a forced entry using small tools.

Charity clean highlights beach litter problem

Staff from Living Coasts, Torquay’s coastal zoo, have led a clean-up of one of Torquay’s beaches.

Twenty-one volunteers joined workers from the charity to pick rubbish from Beacon Cove. But the clean has highlighted the scale of Torbay’s beach litter problem.

The haul included over 200 plastic items, including a bucket and a traffic cone, nearly 300 bits of paper, over 400 shards of glass and 170 pieces of metal, 90 of which were bottle caps. The total weight collected was over 31 kilos.

Car left severely damaged after Exminster fire

A car has been severely damaged after being found on fire by Middlemoor firefighters yesterday ( Saturday 31st May).

An appliance from Middlemoor was called to Kenn Lane in Exminster, following a report of a car on fire outside a property.

Upon arrival, at 4.49pm,crews confirmed a vehicle on fire in a very narrow lane which they set to work extinguishing using breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet.

The cause of the fire was accidental which resulted in the car being severely damaged by fire which also caused some damage to the highway surfacing.

Fire Service rescue mother and children from bathroom

Firefighters from Middlemoor today helped to free a mother and her two children after they had become stuck in their bathroom.

Crews were called to Digby Drive, Middlemoor, Exeter at 9.16am after reports that an occupant had become stuck in their bathroom.

Crews used a ladder to a first floor window to gain access to the bathroom, and used small tools to release them.

Devon’s NHS and local authorities seek people’s views and ideas on mental health strategy for the future

Doctors and healthcare professionals in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay want to find out the views of local people on how the county’s mental health strategy could look in the future.

The NHS and local authorities have launched a draft commissioning strategy for adult mental health services and want people to say what they think about the proposals.

The draft strategy, which is for 2014-2017, has been developed in partnership with mental health service users and carers.
