In July EX2 Group was proud to support Building Greater Exeter’s Work Experience Week, an inspiring initiative aimed at introducing Year 10 students to careers in the built environment.

Oak Furniture Land opens Exeter store

Exeter Chief’s famous mascot Big Chief….in the shape of a cake will be joining the Lord Mayor of Exeter to officially open the new Oak Furniture Land store on Exeter Retail Park on Saturday 24th May, from 10.30am to 11.30am.

St Thomas makes splash down on Friday

The Splash Pad at St Thomas Pleasure Ground will open for the first time at 2pm on Friday (23 May). The facility replaces the old paddling pool, which despite being popular and much-loved was showing signs of age.

The City Council hopes the Splash Pad will become a hit with youngsters not only from St Thomas but from all over the city.

The City Council has replaced the paddling pool with a brand new water splash play area that is unique to the city.

Valiant Soldier exhibition marks Devon town’s role in Great War

Buckfastleigh’s time-capsule tourist attraction, the Valiant Soldier, is putting on a unique local exhibition about World War One.

It opens at the end of May and features artefacts, photographs, information and personal memories. The exhibition will display items ranging from German, French and British helmets to cards and gifts sent to the troops from the people left at home.

The exhibition is part of a series of events called Buckfastleigh Remembers.

Crossing the finishing line in just under six hours and raising £2,000 for charity was a poignant moment for first-time London Marathon runner Diane Collett.

Three Devon academies will need new financial sponsorship after the Department of Education (DfE) confirmed the closue of the Prospects Academy Trust. The DfE has confirmed that the government are seeking new sponsors for six schools including three in Devon after the Prospects Academy Trust will became the first academies chain to close its doors. Cornish bee experts have been awarded a Lottery grant to help save the county’s very own honey bee. And a Devon conservation charity is playing its part.

A38 restrictions remain during works clearing

Speed restrictions on the A38 will remain in place this weekend as the Highways Agency prepare to close most of England’s roadworks for the bank holiday weekend. The Highways Agency says that works on the A38, near Haldon Hill, cannot be removed due to safety concerns caused by the removal of the road’s safety barrier to fit a contraflow. However, the agency believe that the delays caused by the road work will be “slight”.

Appeal after Aylesbeare robbery

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at a home in Aylesbeare, Exeter, on Saturday (10 May). Offenders forced a door to get inside the home sometime between 9.30am and 7pm. After making an untidy search of the house, they stole a black laptop, a still camera and a £1,500 projector, various items of jewellery and a brass compass in a box. They also took a distinctive scalloped edged silver tray engraved with ‘Ultra International’ which was from a conference in New Delhi. Visitors to Castle Drogo will get the opportunity to learn more about the ongoing building work to make building water tight on 27 May.

The husband of a Devon woman killed while on a fundraising cycle challenge has thanked donators from around the world for their generosity. Sharon Bridgman, 38, was killed in April after she was struck by a motorist whilst on a round-the-world, to raise money for the charity Shelterbox, with her husband.
