White Stuff Ice Cream Truck Tour heads for Exeter

To celebrate 40 years, White Stuff is hitting the road with a summer ice cream truck tour, which includes a day in Exeter.

Throughout this month they’ll be serving up free scoops along the south coast, bringing their signature style and community spirit to some of the UK’s favourite seaside destinations. Visitors will also be able to ‘Spin To Win’, with the chance to win some of the brand’s 40th Anniversary product.

The tour kicks off in St Ives, where White Stuff is teaming up with St Ives Surf School to offer locals free surf lessons and gear hire on Saturday 19 July....

Men who keep a mobile phone in their trouser pocket could be inadvertently damaging their chances of becoming a father, according to a new study led by the University of Exeter. Previous research has suggested that Radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) emitted by the devices can have a detrimental effect on male fertility. Most of the global adult population own mobile phones, and around 14% of couples in high and middle income countries have difficulty conceiving. East Devon leads the way on the Wetlands

During the busy half-term week members of EDDC’s Countryside team hosted a visit from their counterparts in Poole, who wanted an in-depth look at the Axe Estuary Wetlands project.

Staff from Borough of Poole Council, Natural England, RSPB, Environment Agency and charity The Birds of Poole Harbour all made the trip along the south coast to learn about, and be inspired by, the work that has gone into making the Axe Estuary Wetlands what it is today.

Police fund new CCTV cameras in Tiverton

Devon and Cornwall Police has donated £2,500 to Mid Devon District Council in an initiative that will see an upgrade to Tiverton town’s CCTV system.

There are currently sixteen CCTV cameras plotted around the town centre and it is hoped that this will be increased by a further two. Images from each camera are sent via a fibre optic cable to the CCTV operating room and recorded on a digital video recorder which can be used in criminal investigations. Nick Stimson and Chris Williams have created an entirely new musical which celebrates Love and Hope, as told through the lives and generations of an Exeter family.

Teign Estuary Trail plans progressing

Devon County Council is moving forward in planning the next section of the Teign Estuary Trail.

Detailed design for the 2.5 mile section from Kingsteignton to Bishopsteignton is now progressing in parallel with work towards the purchase of land along the identified route. This section, which will follow the rail line where possible, is expected to cost around £4.2 million.

Young people from across the county will be hoping for their very own Big Bang moment at the biggest-ever science, technology, engineering and maths fair next month.

Arrests after alleged attempted burglary

Police are investigating an attempted burglary at a commercial premises in Exeter on Monday 9 June.

Four men were spotted on CCTV allegedly attempting to break into the premises in Yeoford Way, Marsh Barton at around 2.40am

The men allegedly climbed the security gate and attempted to break into a shipping container at the rear of the premises.

An emotional end to D-Day trip

Exeter businessman Chris Wollacott and his friend Steve Robertson are cycling to the five D Day beaches in Normandy, France to remember the brave soldiers who fought in 1944.

Steve's father (from London, pictured) was one of the servicemen and lied about his age 18 (he was 17 years old) to be able to sign up.

Chris's Dad Cyril Wollacott (from Crediton) is 88 on the 9th June 14, he was 18 years old all but 3 days by the skin of his teeth. He missed the D Day landings because but was part of the India & Burma soldiers.
