Devon Young Carers shine at the 2025 Young Carers Festival

Seventeen young carers from across Devon have enjoyed a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities at the largest festival in the world dedicated to young people with unpaid caring roles.

It’s the 25th year that Devon Young Carers has attended the Young Carers Festival at YMCA Fairthorne Manor at Botley in Hampshire. Four dedicated staff members, one volunteer, and one inspiring Adult Young Carer accompanied them on a two-night adventure packed with connection, laughter, and discovery - a well-deserved break from their day-to-day caring roles at home.

Runner takes on 50 mile challenge

Geoff Beale, 49, will be taking on a very special challenge this October, as he plans to run 50 miles to celebrate his 50th birthday.

He will reach the pinnacle of his challenge when he completes his final mile at Exeter’s Great West Run on 19 October.

The event will also be particularly poignant for Geoff, as Exeter is home to his first ever running event, the Sport Aid 10k which took place in May 1986.

Cullompton Fire Station is hosting an open day for prospective on-call firefighters on Monday 14 July 2014 from 2pm-8pm.

One of the UK’s fastest growing pantomime companies has joined forces with Exmouth Pavilion to bring the biggest pantomime the venue has had to date.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will run at the theatre from 26 December until Saturday 3 January and will star Eastenders actress Melissa Suffield and CBBC star Lucinda Rhodes.

Melissa, who is known to millions as Lucy Beale will be playing Snow White.

Urban wildlife garden opens for special event

An Exeter-based charity is opening its beautiful urban wildlife garden for a special summer event.

As the weather gets warmer and the evenings longer, many of us will be out in the garden enjoying the sun. Wildlife in the garden provides the gentle background buzz and tweets that are the sound of summer.

Public exhibitions kick start next stage of A303/A30 campaign

A series of exhibitions on improving the A303 start today (9 July) by Devon County Council, supported by Somerset County Council.

They are part of a study into improving the A30/A303 between Honiton and Broadway.

The drop in sessions will set out the progress of the study so far and next steps to improve the route.

The study is part of a wider campaign, led by Somerset, Devon, Wiltshire and Dorset Councils, as well as the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, to lobby and put the case to Government to improve the entire A303/A358/A30 road corridor...

Passenger assaulted at Exeter rail station

British Transport Police detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following an incident which allegedly took place at Digby and Sowton Station on Tuesday 1 July.

When the 11.26pm service to Exeter arrived at Digby and Sowton station, a disturbance broke out which saw train staff threatened and passenger assaulted by two men who had got on the train at the station.

Two male youths are also reported to have fled from the station after telling another passenger that they had been threatened by two men at the station.

Two men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested...

Free tasters at Haven Banks Outdoor Centre

It's 40 years since Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre opened and one year since they moved into their new purpose built facility on Exeter’s historic canal and quayside.

Appeal after vehicles damaged in Chudleigh

Police are appealing for the public’s help in identifying a man after a number of vehicles were damaged in Rock Road, Chudleigh.

Six scrap vehicles were spray painted and their windows were smashed with a claw hammer at around 4.30pm on Monday 16 June.

Officers would like to speak to the man (pictured) in connection with the incident. He is described as in his early 20s, around 6ft tall and was wearing a white t-shirt.

Police are also keen to trace a woman who was seen with the man in the area at the time.

She is believed to be aged between 19 and 21, around...

Transition Exeter to run Skill Sharing Day

Transition Exeter is running a Skill Sharing Day on 19th July, offering a chance to learn new and old money-saving skills free of charge. Jam and bread-making, bicycle maintenance and repair, knitting and quilting, spinning and weaving are all on the menu, as well as teas, coffee and cakes available all morning. There will be help on hand for people to alter pre-loved clothes to fit themselves, or to look more stylish, and a bike mending expert; so bring your bikes along if they need repairing or maintaining.
