And that has been good for business.

Commenting on the news, Chief Executive Tony Rowe said: "Each year we continue to see our support base grow with the rise in season ticket sales. The support that we enjoyed last season, particularly during our European and LV= Cup adventures was simply outstanding. For us, it's fantastic to see so many...

Bertha still threatens a rainy Sunday

A rainstorm in the Atlantic that was once Hurricane Bertha has prompted the Met Office to release a severe weather warning for Sunday.

Despite reports that the storm would ravage the South of England, Bertha has been downgrading in severity since it left the Bahamas, becoming a ‘tropical storm’, and then an ‘Atlantic storm’. By the time it reaches the South West, if indeed it does, it is likely to be just another wet and windy Sunday. However, there is a chance that the rain will be heavy and accompanied by strong winds, bringing a chance of flooding. The Met Office’s warning shows...

Bradley Manor opened its gates to pupils of Bradley Barton Primary and their cameras for a special photo shoot of unusual and inspirational architectural features of the medieval manor house exterior. The children learnt about camera angles, close ups and panoramic views under the expert guidance of professional artist Kate Green. They also learned about the heritage of the mediaeval property and how changes happened to its features over the last 700 years. Teignbridge Design and Fine Arts Society (TDFAS) joined forces with the National Trust to fund the project, which will culminate in...

Price of farmland reaches record high

The rising cost of farmland in the South West, which has reached record highs, has been partly attributed to a rising demand for residential, ‘lifestyle’ farms.

The average price for farmland in England and Wales, which in 2012 stood at £6,783 per acre, has now risen to £8,607 an acre, according to the latest RICS/RAU Rural Land Market Survey.

This represents a rise of nearly 27 percent in two years, with land prices 8.4% higher than this time a year ago.

Farmland now costs nearly four times the amount as when RICS first began recording regional rural land market...

Having fully considered the offer, the trade unions (Unison, GMB and Unite) have decided to ballot their members on the proposal with the recommendation to accept. If the proposal is...

Dartmoor National Park scenery goes wireless

Two major projects to bury overhead power cables and enhance the landscape of the Dartmoor National Park have been completed in a joint project between Western Power Distribution, the South West Protected Landscapes Forum, and Dartmoor National Park Authority.

The two schemes on Holne Moor and Walkhampton Common have removed nearly 6km of overhead lines between them from open moorland.

Work on the Holne scheme started in November with the 1km or so of underground works now completed. Archaeologists were on site throughout the trenching works but disappointingly, nothing of...

Green Party's redevelopment fears

Exeter Green Party is warning that local and independent businesses could be pushed out of the city centre as a result of its redevelopment.

Greens are concerned that the redevelopment of the bus station site, Sidwell Street, and Paris street areas will aim to attract more chains and national brands and so squeeze out local and independent businesses and retailers. The local Green Party argues that local businesses need to become the centrepiece of Exeter’s economy; the Party opposes further expansion of chain stores in the city. Greens say the council will need to offer a real...
