Calling all crocheters: Help celebrate the Women’s Rugby World Cup

Crochet enthusiasts in Exeter are being asked to get creative and help celebrate the Women’s Rugby World Cup coming to the city.

Crafters from across Exeter are invited to make rugby-themed crochet pieces for a yarn exhibition at Exeter’s historic Guildhall and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery (RAMM).

The Women’s Rugby World Cup comes to Exeter in late August and September, with Sandy Park hosting seven games, including two quarter-finals. As a result, the city will welcome players and fans from nine countries as Exeter is put on the global stage....

Exeter CAB set to move to new premises

Local charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has confirmed that it will re-open in its new premises at 10am on Wednesday 27 August.

The charity’s new address will be Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau, Dix’s Field, Exeter, EX1 1QA. The charity will be taking over a ground floor office complex in the Civic Centre – giving it a more prominent location in the city centre.

The charity will close in Wat Tyler House at 1pm on Wednesday 20th August 2014 ahead of re-opening in Dix’s Field a week later.

A partner with a Bideford-based Chartered Accountancy firm, has passed all of the Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) taxation examinations with flying colours, on the first attempt. The reigning world champion wool handler, Devon-based Hilary Bond, narrowly lost out on picking up another title at the Devon County Show’s Lamb Shearing competitions which took place last Sunday (August 10).

Hilary, a working farmer from Bovey Tracey, was beaten by close rival Gwenann Paewai at the well supported event held at Home Farm, Sidbury, near Sidmouth.

Eighty five contenders from all over the UK took part in the shearing competitions which saw 75 sheep relieved of their fleeces in less than 18 minutes in the very keenly fought Open Championship Final which was won...

Throughout August, Devon and Cornwall Police in Partnership with TISPOL, the European Traffic Police Network, is focusing on excessive and inappropriate speed on the region’s roads. Robin’s iPhone app is i-nspirational

A South Devon computer science student has created a free iPhone app for the charity that inspired him as a child.

Robin Bailey, who is studying Computer Science at Plymouth University, was a member of Paignton Zoo’s Gibbon Club when he was at primary school. He is now a volunteer at the Zoo - and helps with Gibbon Club.

The app, called INVestigate INVertebrates, has been launched to tie in with Paignton Zoo’s Investigate exhibit, which focuses on invertebrates.

Tickets are selling fast for the first ever Devon Wine and Music Festival with folk singer Steve Knightley headlining the September event.

Responses positive to library consultation

Devon County Council has described responses to its recent consultation on the future of Devon's library service as 'extremely positive'.

Never has the council had such a level of responses to previous library consultations, in terms of numbers and quality of feedback.
