Guitar indie-pop band Pale Waves and Mercury-nominated The Big Moon are the latest acts heading to the south Devon countryside for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

The bands are joining the line-up for seven-time GRAMMY Award winning Canadian / American artist Alanis Morissette ’s headline show with special guest musical powerhouse Skunk Anansie at TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham on Friday June 26.

Luxury home company shortlisted for national award

A director of an Exeter-based luxury home design business has been shortlisted for a national award.

Mark Newbery of Sapphire Living Space, Topsham, achieved the esteemed nomination for a kitchen he designed for a Torquay home.

Mark will find out if it has won the award, run by Designer magazine, a special lunch in London’s Embankment Gardens on November 12.

Drug gang jailed for Exeter murder

Four men have been convicted and sentenced to a total of 94 years following a nine-week murder trial at Exeter Crown Court. Stephen Crook, 43, was discovered seriously injured at his home in Alphington Road, Exeter on 21 September last year. He had sustained multiple knife injuries and was taken to hospital where he later died. Ryan Singleton, 26, from Coventry, was convicted of murder and robbery and sentenced to 28 years.

Steve Webster, 42, from Okehampton, was convicted of manslaughter and robbery and sentenced to 24 years.

Police focus on young and emerging drivers

In November Devon and Cornwall Police is focusing its roads policing efforts on young and emerging drivers. Road collisions impact significantly on people’s lives and it is stark truth that they remain the leading cause of death for young adults aged between 15 and 24, accounting for over a quarter of deaths in the 15 to 19 age group. This month police are concentrating on this group to improve attitudes to driving and risk taking. The Bike Shed Theatre is delighted to announce that it has received a major award from the Clore Prize Fund, at a prestigious ceremony in London’s Natural History Museum on Tuesday 4th November. The £50,000 award follows the theatre’s recent success in being added to the Arts Council England’s National Portfolio - and will be used to support the next generation of emerging South West and beyond theatre companies to develop and produce nationally recognised work.

Views sought on plans to improve Hollow Lane

Residents in Exeter are being asked for their views on plans to create a new recreational park and amend the layout of Hollow Lane. Vandals destroy Crediton war memorial wreaths

Police are appealing for witnesses following an act of vandalism on the war memorial in Crediton.

Police were called at 1.15am on Monday 10 November after a member of the public witnessed two youths setting fire to the wreaths placed at the war memorial.

The two suspects are described as aged around 14-15, one male and one female, both wearing hooded tops and were seen running from scene towards the park behind the memorial.

Local officers plus a dog unit conducted a search of the area but the suspects weren’t located.

It's been 50 years since the THINK! road safety campaign was launched and road safety officers in Devon are reminding people of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

In Devon during 2012 and 2013 there were a total of 3,529 recorded injury collisions. Of these, 148 collisions, including seven deaths, were as a result of road collisions where alcohol was recorded as being a contributory factor.

The Medical Imaging Team at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital have been recognised for providing high quality radiology services to patients by achieving the UKAS Imaging Service Accreditation (ISAS) .

They have become one of just 16 NHS Trusts across the country to have been granted the official accreditation by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) on behalf of the Royal College of Radiologists and the College of Radiographers.
