Cranbrook to Host First eat:Festival Food and Drink Event

eat:Festivals will be hosting a food and drink festival in Cranbrook on Sunday 13 September 2026.

The festival will be happening in the heart of the town, on and surrounding the Tillhouse Road. eat:Festivals are a small social enterprise who have been delivering one day food and drink festivals in towns across the south-west for over 13 years. Exeter resident commended for voluntary work

Elsa Welch, resident at RMBI care home Cadogan Court in Exeter has received an award commending her 14 years of voluntary work.

The 2014 Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Elsa by the Kidney Research shop she volunteers in.

Speaking about the award, Elsa said: “It was a great, unexpected surprise.

"It felt marvellous to receive the award and it gives me great pleasure to know that I am helping others.”

Topsham Road in Exeter has been closed following a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry.

Emergency sevices were called to the scene of the collision at around 1pm today.

The road has been closed between Countess Wear Roundabout and Burnthouse Lane.

Police have set up diversions at Barrack Road and Countess Wear, and buses are being diverted.

A public exhibition will be held by Devon County Council on proposals to introduce traffic calming measures on Blundell’s Road in Tiverton. With housing and employment development planned to the east of Tiverton, improvements are needed on the local road infrastructure. Four Devon schools chosen to boost global links

Four Devon primary schools, including one in Exeter, have been chosen to take part in a national initiative aimed at developing global education.

Redhills primary and pre-school in Exeter, Lady Modiford’s in Walkhampton and Meavy and Offwell schools have been selected to develop international links with Tanzania as part of a major new school twinning project.

Wild pollinators at risk from commercial bees

A new study from the University of Exeter has found that viruses carried by commercial bees can jump to wild pollinator populations with potentially devastating effects.

The researchers are calling for new measures to be introduced that will prevent the introduction of diseased pollinators into natural environments.

Dementia drop-in centre opens in Topsham

A new information dementia drop in centre has been opened at Topsham Pharmacy and is open on Thursdays between 10am and noon.

Run by volunteers, it is somewhere people to come to find out what support maybe available to them and generally answer any questions they may have on dementia.

Sallie Rutledge who runs The Mede and Seaward House (holiday and day support for people with dementia) in Topsham says: "There's little help at times for the carer and they can feel very isolated.

The whole of the Accident and Emergency structures are at breaking point due the changes this government has already made the GMB union has claimed.

Bus diversions tonight while Exeter High Street is closed for road repairs

Exeter High Street will be closed for two hours tonight (Friday 16 January), to allow for emergency highway repairs to be carried out.

The work starts at 8pm and is expected to be completed by 10pm.

While the road closure is in place, bus services will operate the following diversions:
