Cranbrook to Host First eat:Festival Food and Drink Event

eat:Festivals will be hosting a food and drink festival in Cranbrook on Sunday 13 September 2026.

The festival will be happening in the heart of the town, on and surrounding the Tillhouse Road. eat:Festivals are a small social enterprise who have been delivering one day food and drink festivals in towns across the south-west for over 13 years. Fashion retailers Simply Be and Jacamo, part of multi-channel retailer N Brown Group PLC, are coming to Exeter this spring.

Opening on the High Street in March,the dual-facia Simply Be and Jacamo 7,470 sq ft store will create 30 new jobs and will provide a selection of men’s and women’s fashion.

Solicitor helps raise £4,620 for Wateraid

An intrepid Devon solicitor joined local businesses to raise money for WaterAid at Meldon reservoir recently. Donna Rowland of WBW Solicitors was one of a handful of volunteers who have raised £4,620 for the charity by walking the length of the reservoir, carrying 20kg of water.

The challenge reflected the daily burden faced by millions of women and girls all over the World who make similar trips every day, carrying water on their heads weighing up to 20kg. On Shrove Tuesday (Tuesday 17th February), Princesshay will host the second World Pancake Racing Championships.

Local businesses, organisations and clubs are now being invited to demonstrate their flipping credentials by entering a team of between two and four members for this fun and entertaining contest.

Unemployment continues to fall in Devon

The number of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) claimants in Devon has once again fallen during December (in line with the national trend), reaching a new lowest figure on record.

Total claimants now stand at 3,998, 21 claimants fewer than in November (a 0.5% month on month drop). Whilst the fall is lower than the UK average of 2.9%, as a proportion of the working age population, Devon remains far lower at 0.9%, compared to the UK at 2%.

At a district level, JSA claimant numbers fell for six of Devon’s eight districts by an average of 3.4%; the largest drop was in the South Hams...

Airport celebrates another year of growth

Exeter Airport is celebrating another year of growth with passenger numbers up by almost 30,000 in 2014 thanks to the addition of new domestic flights and continued investment in airport facilities.

The total number of passengers using the airport in 2014 was in excess of three quarters of a million at 763,000. The increase builds on the previous year’s growth which saw numbers rise for the first time in six years.

Spacex, an internationally renowned contemporary art organisation, based on Preston Street, Exeter, has this week shared its plans on how it is hoping to take the organisation into a new and exciting phase.

A man who died in a collision in Colyton has been named as Richard Daniel Manley, aged 43.

Richard grew up in Plymouth, but has lately been living in Seaton with his young family.

Richard was described by his family as loving father, brother and son who was very proud of his time serving in 26 Royal Engineers. He was always willing to help anyone in need and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He was a genuinely good guy, with a heart of gold who will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
