Exeter-based business backs Deaf Academy

Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education is delighted to announce that Crisp Professional Development have chosen the Deaf Academy New Build Appeal as their Charity of the Year for 2015.

Crisp are a training, coaching and leadership development business based in Exeter and operating throughout the UK. The company will be donating £5 to the Deaf Academy for every person that books onto one of their open courses. Employees of Crisp are also keen to take part in one off fundraising events and volunteering at the Deaf Academy. In addition, the Crisp team are also keen to help raise awareness of Exeter Deaf Academy and their New Build Appeal in the local community.

Crisp Managing Director, Shaun Durham worked with a Deaf member of Academy staff when providing some training last year. This was Shaun’s first experience of British Sign Language and working with an interpreter, which lead him to want to find out more about the impact of deafness. Inspired by his experience, Shaun then decided to explore how he could support the fundamental work of the Deaf Academy.

He commented, “I am extremely pleased that Crisp Professional Development are supporting the Deaf Academy. Before meeting the member of staff, I had little awareness of deafness generally or the work that the Deaf Academy does to support its students so it’s fantastic that Crisp can help ensure the Deaf Academy’s New Build can become a reality.”

Tori Webb, Community and Corporate Fundraising Manager added, “The Deaf Academy is thrilled to be chosen as Crisp’s Charity of the Year for 2015. It is great that Shaun was so inspired by meeting our staff and the work that we do. We are very excited to be working with Crisp to form a strong partnership in the year ahead. Their support will make a real difference to our New Build Campaign.”
