An Exeter charity has just set a new record in its work to prevent good food from being wasted and to support local community organisations across the city.

Devon and Cornwall Food Association, based in South Street, rescued over six tonnes of edible produce in December 2014, bringing the total saved last year to over 26,000 kilos.

Through its work with volunteers, in-date foodstuffs which are destined for landfill or incineration are collected daily and stored temporarily.

They are then re-distributed to dozens of community groups which support some of the most...

Generous mum Niki gives the gift of time to bereaved parents

Niki Cunningham, founder of the Harry Cunningham Trust, has donated a ‘Cuddle Cot’ to the Maternity Unit of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to enable bereaved parents to spend more time with their babies.

The Cuddle Cot is a cold pad that can be wrapped around a baby that has been stillborn or has been miscarried late in pregnancy. The Cuddle Cot keeps the baby cool, meaning parents can stay with their child for longer after it has passed away. This will give parents time to grieve and start to come to terms with their loss, as well as enabling other family members time to meet...

Arable land in the South West is currently more attractive than pasture, with the price of arable land hitting £9,250* per acre, with pasture at £7,625*.

Anecdotal evidence from surveyors in the South West suggests that supply is a big issue in the region, with a shortage of whole farms coming on to the market with a lot of interest from local farmers. Most...

As has been widely reported, very strong winds and high seas over 4 and 5 February 2014 severely damaged the railway line that runs through Dawlish, causing a section of it to be washed away, along with part of the sea wall, the platforms at Dawlish station and sections of the coastal path.
