Darts Farm celebrates 55 years with Summer Festival

Darts Farm is celebrating a remarkable milestone - 55 years since of ‘Darts Farm’ and they are celebrating with a three-day Summer Festival from 12th to 14th June 2026.

The long weekend community celebrations include live music, from legendary local band Mad Dog Mcrea and The Luke Combs Experience, with a vibrant line-up of local talent.

Cranbrook community star in short film

A short film commissioned by East Devon District Council charting the development of Cranbrook has been released.

Recording took place when the community came together to celebrate ‘Cranbrook Day’ on 29 June last year, an event that included consultation undertaken by East Devon Volunteer Support Agency (EDVSA), to find out what residents would like to see in the Cranbrook of the future.

Cathedral awarded £275k for repairs

Exeter Cathedral has been awarded £275,000 from the final round of the government’s World War One Cathedrals Repairs Fund.

The money will be spent on urgent repairs and conservation of the Cathedral’s East End, which houses the medieval Great East Window.

The window dates back to around 1300 and is thought to have been one of the most ambitious of its day in England.

The glass contained in the window is of national significance, incorporating important examples of early 14th and 15th century craftsmanship.

Funding boost adds to success of Information Day

An information day held yesterday (26 March) for locals wanting to get involved with Seaton Jurassic attracted more than 100 people eager to find out more. The same day the project team received the welcome news that a further £200,000 has been secured for the centre from Coastal Communities Fund.

Castle opens its doors for new season

Powderham Castle, the 600 year old home of the Earl and Countess of Devon near Exeter, opens its doors this Friday for the start of the new 2015 season.

After months of preparation, the Castle & grounds will be open again to visitors from Friday 27th March to Friday 30th October 2015, and provides a perfect history-laden family day out. The Castle is open from Sunday to Friday from 11am to 4.30 pm.

Fellowship awards for outstanding scientists

Two rising research stars at the University of Exeter Medical School have been awarded prestigious Sir Henry Dale Fellowships.

Dr Sarah Flanagan and Dr Rachel Freathy have both received the award, in a scheme run by the Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science, in partnership with the Wellcome Trust. The Sir Henry Dale Fellowships were created for outstanding post-doctoral scientists wishing to build their own UK-based, independent research career addressing an important biomedical question.

Work to start on new Mamhead Slipway

Work is set to start on the new, improved Mamhead Slipway later this year subject to Cabinet approval next month, 25 April.

The Slipway, which closed to protect public safety in 2012, will be improved to provide additional vehicle manoeuvring space using the area of Mamhead Gardens.

Detailed design work for the replacement slipway is now being prepared to be completed at the end of April. A competitive tender process will then take place with the aim to start construction on site in June.

Uni in top three for extra funding

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has awarded the University of Exeter an additional £3.8 million for research, the third highest gain amongst English universities, only surpassed by Kings College London and University College London. The £3.8 million represented a 22% uplift on an already significant base figure.

The increased funding is the result of Exeter’s excellent performance in the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), in which it was ranked 16th nationally* when assessed against the very highest 4* grade for world-leading research.
