Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Complaints investigated by RSPCA rise

The RSPCA’s annual figures for 2014 show that cruelty complaints investigated by the charity in the south west and central England have gone up once again.

More worrying still is that the numbers of complaints involving direct cruelty including beatings, improper killing, mutilation and poisonings formed 12.5% of the total number of complaints.

The charity investigated 28,800 complaints in the south west and central England in 2014 compared to 28,573 in 2013. A shocking 3,594 of these complaints involved alleged deliberate and often violent cruelty being inflicted upon...

Update: A man has been arrested in connection with a burglary at an elderly woman’s home in Tiverton. A 26-year-old man from Newton Abbot has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been released on police bail until 5th August pending further enquiries.

The incident took place on Monday 13 April while the woman, who is in her 80s, was in her garden.

Chef Robin Rea from Ottery’s award-winning Rusty Pig has put together a special festival meal box for the Honiton Sausage & Cider Festival at the Honiton Showground on May 1 and 2.

The feast includes a Rusty Pig homemade saveloy and blood pudding, with green sauce and pease pudding.

“We’re really looking forward to supporting the festival this year as traders, and I wanted to make something a bit different for festival-goers to enjoy,” explained Robin.

Residents need to be aware that if anyone contacts them by telephone, claiming to be from East Devon District Council and asks them for bank details due to their account being in credit, they must NOT give them this information. These are hoax calls made by fraudsters.

A Festival will take place in May at Exmouth Rugby Club to celebrate cider made by those people dedicated to keeping Devon's traditional apple varieties and pressing methods alive.

Warning of A38 road closures

Overnight closures on the A38 at Heathfield are due to start from the evening of Monday 27 April to enable a new bridge to be lifted into place.
