The X Factor auditions are back on the road in search of the best and freshest vocal talent as it looks to uncover the nation’s next big singing star.

The UK’s favourite singing show will be visiting Exeter on Friday 22 May with auditions taking place in Princesshay. Auditions will take place from 9am – 6pm.

Candidates disappoint Samaritans

The director of the local branch of Samaritans says she is disappointed by the lack of responses from parliamentary candidates to her letter outlining what they and a future government could do to reduce suicide.

The majority of people living on the breadline think David Cameron has no idea what its like to live on their weekly budget. Donna Hart from The Family Law Company in Exeter received the President’s Award in the recent Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) Awards for her commitment to members in Devon.

The award is presented annually to an individual who has given ‘outstanding service to CILEx or the legal community and who represents the organisation’s values and ethos.’

Murder investigation launched in Devon

Detectives have launched a murder enquiry into the death of a 76-year-old old woman from Plymouth.

Police and ambulance were called to an address on Ashleigh Close, Tamerton Foliot in Plymouth at around 9.15am on Tuesday 5 May following reports of a disturbance at the property.

On arrival officers found the woman deceased and a 79-year-old man who was injured, in a collapsed state. He was treated at the scene and has since been taken to Derriford Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Businessmen raise £23k for Nepal

Two well-known businessmen who are on a 170-mile yomp from Devon to London have already raised more than £23,000 for the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund.

Paul Mattin, right above, and Nick Sprague are marching to the Nepali Embassy in London where they will deliver prayer flags and pay respect for the thousands of lives that have been lost.

Mystery £1,000 handed over to Hospiscare

Local charity Hospiscare has officially received the £1,000 left in a bag outside one of its city shops.

Amy Broadway, deputy manager of Hospiscare’s flagship Fore Street shop handed the cash over today to Hospiscare nurses at the Dryden Road hospice.

Police released the cash after nobody came forward to claim it.

Six weeks ago £1,020 was left in a large bag, containing a purple quilt, just by the front door a few minutes before staff arrived to open up in the morning.

On Friday 15 May at 5pm the Mayor of Exmouth will announce cider festival, Scrumpstock, for a weekend of festivities at Exmouth Rugby Club. Exmouth’s Town Crier will also be in attendance.

Exmouth’s Mayor Bill Nash says: “Exmouth Town Council is dedicated to support interest, festival and leisure activities for residents and visitors alike in Exmouth. We welcome the Scrumpstock Festival here starting on the 15th May at the Exmouth Rugby Club and wish it every success".

New ECG machine for RD&E

Senior Research Nurse Lizze Davey and friend Jemma Marsh have donated an Electrocardiogram (ECG) machine to Okement Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The pair raised £8,000 by completing the London Marathon last year, a total which has been split between funding the ECG machine and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) charity Crohn's and Colitis UK.
