Local authorities fund Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving to help get local people into work and support regional employers to secure the drivers they need

Judge rejects Home Farm challenge

Exeter City Council has said it is disappointed with a High Court decision to allow a housing development to go ahead at Home Farm in Pinhoe.

Following a hearing on 8 June, a High Court judge dismissed the City Council's application to overturn a planning inspector's decision to allow an outline planning application for 120 homes at Home Farm on Church Hill, Pinhoe.

The City Council refused the application in January 2014 but following an appeal from the developer the case went to a public inquiry in September the same year, which ruled that the development could go ahead...

Drugs gang jailed for 70 years

After a 16-month operation, named Op Spean, a drugs gang from London and their Exeter-based drugs runners have been sentenced to over 70 years in prison at Exeter Crown Court.

All 15 defendants pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to supply Class A controlled drugs or the concern in the supply of Class A drugs.

Police are trying to trace Chanelle Ford, a 23-year-old woman from Crowborough, who has been reported missing after not having spoken to her family since Wednesday 3 June.

This has been described as out-of-character and officers are keen to ensure that Chanelle, also known as Nell, is safe and well.

Neil Parish MP today pledged his support to carers across Tiverton and Honiton as part of the national Carers Week 2015 awareness campaign, which runs from 8-14th June.

There are 6.5 million people in the UK who care for a partner, relative or friend, of which 10,911 carers are in Tiverton and Honiton.

Without the right help and support, caring can have a devastating impact – carers can quickly become isolated, with their physical and emotional health, work and finances all hit hard.

Five arrested following Exeter drugs warrant

Five people have been arrested following warrants executed in West London and Exeter.

On Tuesday 9 June, officers from Devon and Cornwall Police, assisted by officers from the Metropolitan Police, executed a number of warrants in relation to an ongoing investigation into organised crime groups from London using the vulnerable to sell Class-A drugs on the streets of Exeter.

Five people in total have been arrested on conspiracy to supply class-A drugs; three people from West London aged 18, 21 and 25.

The Residential Property team at Michelmores took over the Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) shop in Crediton on the 9th June 2015. Raising funds by selling cakes, steaming clothes and dressing the store windows the team raised £650 in one day for the charity.

The Exeter Leukaemia Fund supports families affected by blood cancers and blood disorders across the South West by providing compassionate, tailored support in the Yarty ward at the RD&E where around 400 patients are treated each week.

A fairy godperson has flown to the rescue of East Devon District Council by donating the full price of a new bus shelter - £6,840 – to replace the vandalised shelter at Sidmouth Triangle, which the council had to remove for safety reasons. Budget cuts had meant that the council were unable to replace the shelter, which was so badly damaged by fire that it required a complete – and costly - rebuild in hardwood. A severe weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms has been issued for Devon today.
