Exeter School is pleased to welcome Mrs Sue Marks to Exeter Junior School as Headmistress from 1 September 2015.

Sue is a very experienced and compassionate primary sector leader who has worked in seven primary/preparatory schools with great energy and enthusiasm.

Her career pathway began as a medical scientist working in Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry. She later moved into education, qualified as a teacher in Essex and has been involved in primary teaching now for over twenty years.

East Devon beaches cleaner than ever

East Devon’s glorious beaches have never been cleaner. But behind the scenes much hard work has been carried out between East Devon District Council and the Environment Agency to ensure that the new high standards set by the EU are both met and maintained. As natural environments, beaches can be badly affected by weather, particularly storms, so the heavy rainfall that the South West is currently experiencing has an impact on bathing water quality, by washing polluted water into the rivers and drains that lead into coastal waters. Flybe brings back Exeter to Glasgow route

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has announced the return of direct flights to and from Glasgow as part of its 2015-16 Winter programme, operating four days a week and effective for travel between 25 October 2015 and 26 March 2016.

One way fares are from £34.99 including taxes and charges.

Exeter Airport’s Managing Director, Matt Roach, said: “Although we have continued to have connectivity to Glasgow via Flybe’s Manchester hub, the return of this direct route is very welcome.

Rivers on flood alert as heavy rain forecast

The Environment Agency has issued flood alert warnings for Devon's rivers as heavy rain is expected to hit the region.

Outbreaks of rain, which will be persistent and heavy at times, are expected to spread east across southern England during Wednesday morning.

Many parts of Devon have already seen large rainfall accumulations over the past few days and therefore this further rain may cause come minor local surface water flooding. Lightning may be an additional hazard.

The public should be aware that some local disruption to transport looks likely.

Sunshine to return in time for Bank Holiday

There are early signs much of the UK will see an improvement in weather over the bank holiday weekend and this will last through much of next week, according to the Met Office.

Whilst rain and showers are likely across much of the country on Saturday and at first on Sunday, there are signs of an improvement from the west as we go through Sunday and Monday.

The change in the weather is being driven by the jet stream which is slowly moving south east whilst weakening significantly.

Gender pay gap: Women working for free!

Women managers in the South West are effectively working for free an hour and a half every day, new gender pay gap data reveals.

The findings of an annual survey of 72,000 UK managers, published by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and salary specialist XpertHR, reveal that women working in equivalent full-time roles in the region earn 20% less than men, meaning that they are unpaid for 1h 30m a day – a total of 52 working days every year. This is compared to a national gender pay gap of 22%.
