Las Iguanas has rebuked claims that their staff are made to ‘pay to work’.

In a posting on The Exeter Daily last night, 38 Degrees said people in Exeter are taking action to stop the restaurant forcing staff to pay back 3% of their total sales at the end of each shift.

A spokesman for Las Iguanas said: “Claims that we make staff ‘pay to work’ are ridiculous, as that would be illegal and bears no resemblance to our actual policy.

Solar panels on Exeter car parks a UK first

The installation of solar panels on top of Exeter car parks is a UK first.

The pioneering initiative at John Lewis and Mary Arches Street Car Parks is being delivered by Devon firm Sungift Energy on behalf of Exeter City Council.

Once in place it will provide a gross income of over £50,000 per annum, generating 285,227 kwh per year of electricity and saving more than 150 tonnes of carbon.

Police investigate arson at public toilets

Police are investigating an arson attack which caused £500 damage to public toilets in Exmouth.

The fire was started in the toilets in Jarvis Close sometime between 8pm and 8.45pm on Sunday 30 August.

A toilet was damaged after the seat was set alight and smoke damage was caused within the East Devon District Council owned building.

Police are appealing for information and would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity at the time of the offence.

More than seven in ten people from the South West (77 per cent) are not doing the amount of average weekly exercise recommended by NHS guidelines, despite evidence that taking part in regular exercise can reduce a person’s risk of developing dementia, according to a survey carried out by Alzheimer’s Society to mark the start of Memory Walks on Saturday.

Valuables stolen from car in East Devon

Officers from Ottery St Mary are reminding people to take their personal items with them after further reports of parked cars in the area being broken into and valuables stolen.

A silver ford Fiesta parked at the rear of McColls shop, Westhill, was broken into at around 4.40pm on Saturday 28th August. The owner was shopping at the time and the passenger side window was smashed. A handbag and food shopping was stolen from the foot well at the rear of the car. THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust is hoping to follow up its win at the national HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards in 2014 with more success in the 2015 event.

Family pay tribute to Devon crash victim

A driver who died in a collision on the A386 near Lydford on Sunday 23 August, has been named as 34-year-old Holly Beddoes.

Holly, from Okehampton, sustained fatal injuries when her Renault Clio was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra around 7.50pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

East Devon recycling collection trial start dates

As two East Devon communities prepare for trials to begin this month (September) to recycle more items for kerbside collections every week, district council officers were in Exmouth on Saturday to give householders top tips on how they can reduce their waste.

Date announced Exeter Pride 2016

THE biggest free celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in the county, it will take place on Saturday, May 7.

The eighth annual event will include a rainbow flag parade from the St Sidwell Centre down Exeter High Street to Exeter Phoenix, Exeter Library and Rougemont Gardens, where a packed programme of activities will await.
