Police ready to welcome RWC fans

With the Rugby World Cup 2015 just days away Devon and Cornwall is ready to welcome visitors from across the globe.

Rugby World Cup 2015 begins on September 18th and Exeter’s Sandy Park is one of the venues chosen to host matches.

As well staging three games the city is also hosting 13 Fanzone events in Northernhay Gardens.

Eco-minded staff at Redrow (West Country) are to challenge each other in a ‘green’ race to the company’s Exeter head office using different forms of transport in a bid to raise awareness of the greenest, fastest and easiest way to commute to work.

The nine commuters will swap their cars for alternative methods of transport in a challenge which will see them set off from Central Station on Friday 25th September and travel the 4.3 miles to Redrow’s offices in Pynes Hill using either a road bike, electric bike, motorbike, electric car, taxi, bus, train, walking or running.

Budleigh Salterton-based Hilary Mantel’s controversial story ‘The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher’ has made the shortlist for the BBC National Short Story Award 2015 with Book Trust. Man, 22, killed in A38 crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a road traffic collision on the A38 southbound at Chudleigh, near Newton Abbot.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the fatal collision, involving a single vehicle, which happened just past the petrol station shortly after 12.15am on Wednesday 16 September.

The 22-year-old male driver of the silver Ford Focus, from Saltash, suffered serious head injuries following a collision with a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver’s family have been informed.

Olly gives the gift of life to 5 others

Devon schoolboy Olly Croker who died after a freak accident during a football match has given the gift of life to five other children.

The 12-year-old was struck by a wooden pole during the match between Bradninch and Bampton on Saturday and was flown to Frenchay hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.

Free wifi for Exeter Airport

A leading communications infrastructure company, has partnered with Exeter Airport to deliver free WiFi connectivity, to passengers travelling throughout the terminal building.

Previously, free WiFi had only been available for 30 minutes in centralised departure lounge areas. However, following an upgrade delivered by Arqiva, any passenger can now access up to 60 minutes of free WiFi connectivity daily, with coverage provided across all areas of the terminal building*.
