Money and cards taken in distraction theft

Police are appealing for witnesses following a distraction theft in Exeter.

At around 3.10pm on Friday 13th November, a woman was sat in her blue Fiat 500 in the car park of Waitrose in Heavitree and was approached by a man who asked if she could get out of her car to help him with directions.

A short time later the woman discovered that her bank cards had been stolen from her bag which was on the front seat. These cards have been used and a large amount of money stolen from the victims account.

A380 diversion for link road work

The constructor of the new A380 South Devon Link Road, Galliford Try, has announced the next phase of works which will impact on road users travelling towards Newton Abbot.

Tenants sublet behind landlords' backs

Almost half of tenants who sublet their property do so without their landlord’s consent, according to new findings from the National Landlords Association (NLA).

The findings come as the government recently announced proposals to introduce minimum room sizes in order to crack down on problems with private rented accommodation such as unauthorised subletting, which often results in overcrowded and cramped properties.

Of the eleven per cent of tenants who say they have sublet all or part of their property before, just five per cent did so with their landlord’s permission....

Exeter Provost joins high-level taskforce to tackle harassment on university campuses

Professor Janice Kay, Provost of the University of Exeter, has accepted an invitation to join a high level taskforce designed to address all forms of harassment on University campuses.

The influential taskforce, set up by Universities UK, will explore what more can be done by universities across the country to prevent students from becoming victims of harassment and hate crimes on campus.

The taskforce has been established following a request from Jo Johnson MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science, in September 2015.

Glen Bevan’s story of hope and transformation is inspirational. A few years ago he was overweight and a borderline alcoholic, he suffered a collapsed lung and doctors told him to change his lifestyle or die.

Now, as an ultra-endurance athlete, he’s taking on a huge physical and mental challenge in aid of a local charity.

Olympian Jo Pavey, MBE, officially opened our new £1.2m Kings House Day Hospice in Honiton today.

Jo, who lives locally said: "I am deeply honoured to be asked to open this fantastic building in the town where I was born.

"It’s wonderful that such great care is available to local patients and their families. It’s really inspiring to see all the nurses here in this day hospice.

Sid Vale Association funded volunteer becomes full time National Trust Ranger

A volunteer trainee ranger who was funded by the Sid Vale Association’s Keith Owen Fund has become a permanent countryside ranger with the East Devon National Trust team.

Lucy Buckingham started as a trainee at the end of June 2014 and funding covered practical management work, community projects, events and public engagement and certificates in power tool use and first aid. After the completion of her training she became a seasonal ranger in April 2015 before being appointed to her new role this month.

Police investigate serious sexual assault in Exeter

Police have launched an investigation following a report of a serious sexual assault on Okehampton Road, Exeter early this morning (Tuesday 17th November).

The victim is a local man in his 20’s and is currently being supported by specialist officers.

A cordon has been set up in the area including the public toilets as scenes of crime officers undertake forensic searches.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the Okehampton Road area between 1-4am this morning.
