New report reveals UK's happiest places to be a dog

Exeter comes 9th in Dogs Trust's Happy Place Index, but we all have room for improvement

For dogs, a happy place can be somewhere physical, like cuddling up next to their owner on the sofa, dozing by the fire or rolling around in a muddy puddle. But it can also be a feeling, like the excitement of a new toy, the comfort of being with their favourite humans, or the relief of just being somewhere safe.

To examine the various factors that contribute to a dog's satisfaction, an academic has developed a new formula – the Canine Happiness Score (CHS).

The new scoring system...

In this heartfelt letter she appeals for your help:

My name is Jo. I am a 37 year old mummy from Exeter. I have lived here all of my life. But now I am dying. I am 1 in 7 billion, the only person in the world to suffer from a combination of two terminal diseases, Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Follicular Lymphoma.

In April this...

Road users urged to brighten up

Devon County Council is reminding road users to “brighten up” when the clocks go back on Sunday 25 October.

As British Summer Time ends, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders are being urged to wear reflective and fluorescent clothing to ensure they can be seen on the county’s roads as the winter nights draw in.

Car drivers are also being asked to “give cyclists space” and look out for all other road users, especially when visibility is limited due to mist, rain and fog.

Between October and December in 2014, two pedestrians in Devon were killed and...

Devon health leaders join sugar debate

Devon’s Public Health leaders have added their voice to a growing debate about the amount of sugar in people’s diets.

Their comments follow the recent petition on a proposed sugar tax, handed to Government by TV chef and food campaigner Jamie Oliver, and the publication of a report by Public Health England (PHE) yesterday, entitled Sugar Reduction: The evidence for action. This report was commissioned by Ministers at the Department of Health to inform policy-making as part of the Government’s forthcoming childhood obesity strategy.

The report suggests a number of measures...

Chiefs side to face London Irish

They say home is where the heart is and for Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter, he’s well aware that if his side are to be genuine contenders for a play-off spot in this season’s Aviva Premiership, then finding the winning formula at Sandy Park will be key.

Last term only two sides - Leicester Tigers and Gloucester - emerged victorious from the Devon venue as the Chiefs posted their best-ever top flight finish.

Sadly, such form was not enough to ensure Baxter’s men of a top four placing, points difference denying them on the final day, but it did show the Chiefs were more...
