Nationwide and Dementia UK’s free face-to-face clinics are returning to Nationwide’s Torquay, Plymouth and Exmouth branches this February, offering specialist support in a safe, comfortable and private space for people to discuss any aspect of dementia.

Twelve UK gas hob manufacturers have been working with the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) to undertake a corrective action programme to make certain gas hobs safe.

An estimated 100,000 gas hobs sold in the UK may be fitted with a connector that is at risk of failing whether the hob is in use or not. Should this occur, it could lead to poisoning, burns, a gas leak or fire.

This corrective action programme affects certain models of the following brands of gas hobs:

Work to upgrade gas pipes continues in Exeter

Wales & West Utilities is working to upgrade over 2,000 metres of gas pipes in the Cowley Bridge Road area of Exeter.

The work, which is due to finish in June, is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people safe and warm for generations to come.

As part of the work the gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Devon County Council, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place whilst the work is ongoing. This includes:

Gas emergency and pipeline service Wales & West Utilities has extended its partnership with Westbank Community Health and Care (Westbank) to donate 100 ‘warm bags’ which will now be distributed through its recently launched Warmwell at Home initiative.

Exeter researcher leads Fish Free February campaign

A University of Exeter researcher is leading Fish Free February – asking people to give up fish for a month to reduce our impact on the ocean.

PhD student, Jessica Haines, who studies manta rays, is campaign manager for the charity.

Fish Free February’s mission is to reduce seafood consumption, encourage a shift to more sustainable fishing methods and connect more people with important marine issues.
