Figures released last week (18 December) about the South West Coast Path show that walkers using England’s longest National Trail spent around £468m during 2014, an increase of almost 23% in the past five years. Patients at Exeter Community Hospital in Whipton were treated to a Christmas lights switch-on, carol singing, mince pies and a visit from Santa Claus and two snowmen fresh from the North Pole at a special event on Thursday (17 December).

The event was the climax of a team building day for the hospital’s facilities, domestic and catering staff.

A 28-year-old woman from Devon has been killed in a crash.

Poice were called to the collision involving two vehicles, a blue Renault Megane and a silver Toyota MR2, at the top of Kingston Hill, Dorset at 6.33pm on Sunday 20 December 2015.

The 28-year-old, from Newton Abbot, died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.

Devon and Cornwall’s Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg has welcomed calls for an independent panel to advise the Government on future proposals for police funding.
