Ice warning issued for Devon

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of ice for Devon as temperatures are set to fall below freezing tonight.

The warning says: "Temperatures will fall below freezing on Wednesday night, with a risk of scattered wintry showers falling on sub-zero surfaces.

"This leads to a risk of icy patches on untreated roads and pavements on Thursday morning.

"In addition, light snow showers may give a temporary dusting of snow away from coasts.

"Please be aware of the risk of some locally difficult driving conditions, and some low level travel disruption...

Police appeal after caravan burglary

Officers investigating a high-value burglary at a residential caravan in the Kennford area of Exeter are appealing for information.

The caravan, at Kennford Caravan Park, was broken into at around 9.50pm on Sunday 14 February when the offenders smashed a window to gain entry.

Several expensive items of jewellery were taken including a silver flat curb chain-linked necklace and bracelet valued at £8,500; an Oyster Perpetual Rolex watch worth £5,000; an Armani watch; a brown leather strap watch (with gold mechanisms visible through the watch face); and a yellow gold diamond...

Robin Rea of Rusty Pig was ‘flabbergasted’ to learn that his auction prize of a dinner for 12 raised £1,000 at a Valentine’s Ball & Banquet hosted at the Institute by the Carnival Committee.

Robin, who was away on a skiing holiday at the time of the auction, said: “I received the news by text, and nearly fell off my skies.

“This was an extremely generous gesture and I look forward to cooking up one heck of a meal for the winning bidder.”

The gent’s toilets in a sleepy Devon village have been closed indefinitely after they became a popular meeting place for gay sex.

Shocked parish councillors took the decision after a local was propositioned by a bearded man in his late 50s or 60s, wearing a white wedding dress.

Bridge Road closure cancelled tonight

Bridge Road in Exeter will remain open this evening (Tuesday 23 February) as a scheduled closure is no longer needed.

A full road closure was originally planned tonight as part of the widening scheme.

However, the traffic management work to establish one lane in each direction was completed last night and therefore the additional closure is not required.

The Glasshouse Lane/Bridge Road junction will be closed from 9am on Wednesday 24 February until 6pm on Saturday 27 February.

Staff give RD&E thumbs up in latest survey

Results from the latest annual NHS Staff Survey show once again that high numbers of RD&E staff would recommend the hospital as a place to work or receive treatment.

The 2015 survey results, released this week, also show that the level of staff satisfaction with the quality of work and patient care they deliver is above the national average for acute trusts.
